Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn achieved one of his top legislative priorities Thursday, signing a $2.7 billion package of cuts and taxes designed to repair a long-term deficit in the state's Medicaid program.

The Chicago Democrat signed five bills, including a tax increase on cigarettes of $1 per pack and $1.6 billion in Medicaid spending reductions.

"One of our most important missions in Springfield this year was to save Medicaid from the brink of collapse," Gov. Quinn said in a statement. "I applaud the members of our working group and of the General Assembly, who worked together in a bipartisan manner to tackle a grave crisis."

The cuts will mean leaner services for the state's 2.7 million Medicaid patients. More than 25,000 working parents will lose state-funded insurance coverage.

Thats 4 pills a day and no more.
First, get some remedial education on English comprehension.

Second, learn the difference between Mediscare and Medicpaid.

Third, there is no limit on the number of pills one can take. There is a limit on the number of prescriptions, not pills, for which the state will pay without prior approval. And yes, that approval will probably come from a pencil pushing government employee interested in his compensation and pension with only bureaucratic training as opposed to medical training. OTOH, a review of how some medical professionals are gaming the system should convince you of the necessity of this move.

Frankly, this entitlement mess has gotten ridiculous. I advocate a single dole amount for each individual who surrenders their franchise and let them spend it on food, housing, cable TV, medical care, or recreational drugs as they see fit and hope they die soon.
