We all know that Republicans in Congress have pledged to NEVER raise taxes on the American people and are holding fast to that pledge. Well, no, not really. They hold to that pledge only for taxes on the wealthy. Entitlements for the wealthy.
They have maneuvered their language to justify raising taxes on the poor. 13 million American families will see their taxes go up $850.00 based on the Republican effort to not renew tax cuts for working families.
Their competing logic. Well, for the wealthy they argue that ANYTHING that results in an increase in taxes paid is a tax increase (true enough), thus Bush tax cuts for the wealthy must be renewed. For working families the argument is that the above standard does NOT apply . Tax cuts for working families were part of the stimulus and when working families taxes go up they are not tax increases. Thus the no tax increase pledge does not apply.
You be the judge.
