More than 150,000 U.S. government and military employees are among the victims of Yahoo! Inc.’s newly disclosed data breach, and their names, passwords, telephone numbers, security questions, birth dates, and backup e-mail addresses are now in the hands of cybercriminals. It’s a leak that could allow foreign intelligence services to identify employees and hack their personal and work accounts, posing a threat to national security. These employees had given their official government accounts to Yahoo in case they were ever locked out of their e-mail.

The government accounts belong to current and former White House staff, U.S. congressmen and their aides, FBI agents, officials at the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and each branch of the U.S. military. The list includes an FBI division chief and multiple special agents working around the U.S.; current and former diplomats in Pakistan, Syria and South Africa; a network administrator at NSA’s Fort Meade headquarters; the chief of an Air Force intelligence group; and a human resources manager for the CIA.

I have posted this before. I use Ubuntu (A Linux OS) on my computer. I don't even have an anti-virus program on my computer as it is almost impossible to infect my computer with a virus. I have an Office Suite that I feel is better than Microsoft Office, I have a 2D and a 3D CAD program on my computer for work. I can edit photos and movies with free software. There are a ton of computer maintenance programs available. If you're into gaming (I'm not) there are a ton of games of all types. The price is very reasonable-IT'S FREE. It you can use Windows (which tracks most of what you do) you can use Ubuntu. I don't have anything Microsoft in my house. BTW. ixquick.com is a super secure search engine that doesn't track you or keep a record of what you search for.

If you would like to try Ubuntu without loading it on your computer go to Ubuntu.com. There are several versions of Linux OS but Ubuntu suits my needs best.

Your information is as safe as the weakest link. So no matter how secure computer is, if you have information on someone else's system such as accounts, emails, etc, it's still subject to being hacked. In the Yahoo account, they didn't hack 1 billion individual computers, they hacked one server to get 1 billion individual's private information.

Long ago, Yahoo used to be called "Yahell."

In the most literal way, Yahoo can't do anything correctly.

Yahoo "News," not surprisingly, is just Left Wing babble.

Justme...You're right about the use a hacked account on someone else's server. You're only protection in that case is the security of the website. Security costs money and all too many save money by using basic security which even school kids can hack. My son is taking cyber security in College. These are some things he advises:

a. Use a phrase as your account name or password such as: ihatspinach45 or ihate88spinch If you use your name to access your account the hackers are half-way there.

b. Use the dog or child's name of a neighbor down the street with the house number of a neighbor such as Rover539 or Ro293ver.

c. Especially on bank accounts use something a hacker won't associate with you. I use my military MOS with a couple of letters. (very few people would know my MOS and I doubt a hacker would think to enter it if he did know it.

d. Don't use an account name and password that are linked such as (account name...Lukeskywalker) Password...Yoda.)

I like the way my USAA account works. My account name accesses the password questions, then a pin number is asked for, then one of three questions is asked. Three level security is a very good system that every website should use.

Make no difference how clever or complicated passwords are the server has to recognize them to let you in.....which means the server has to have record of your password.....and that's the weak link...
Hackers go after the server not you individual password..
