On behalf of Rug Roller (still stuck in sub silver purgatory)
TO BB CONTRIBUTORS AND MEMBERS AND BEYOND:
Thanks to everyone who helped agitate to get the pay sites protected again. We seem to have convinced VW management to take our concerns seriously. Once in a while, collective action works!
TO VW:
Thank you for reversing your policy on this. Probably you will feel that I went too far in campaigning for it, but for this cause I will gladly suffer banishment. On the other hand, you seem to have accepted that my reasons were right, so you might take that into consideration.
Second, I can't see why you wouldn't put up a prominent admin announcement about how you have taken community concerns seriously and restructured the sites so as to protect the member sites. This would also help non-contributors and those who did not pay attention to the discussion to understand why the period of free access they were enjoying has been cut short.
Third, something screwy is currently going on with the shift to protecting pay sites. FunBags seems to be consistently protected, but RC and HC go in and out. The HC direct link www.homeclips(dot)com/members/index.html is consistently unprotected. Possibly the problem is partly a matter of different servers, or you are in the process of moving things around? Why not tell us about it so that we know what is happening?
Finally, since no one has been given passwords yet, wouldn't it be simpler just to take the pay sites offline for the time being, since they are currently of no use to anyone? (Or wouldn't be if properly protected.) Once you get everything lined up right and start issuing passwords you can put them online again. Given that the whole site was offline for a month, I see no particular reason not to take the whole site down for a few hours if that would make it easier to make these changes.
In the meantime, some of our pay-site submissions remain unprotected. If this remains the case this evening when I get back from some work obligations, I will have to reissue my take-down request for those submissions.
