This is where your money goes.
The Pentagon's newest fighter jet, the F-35 Lightning II, has an embarrassing problem. Despite its name, it can't fly within 25 miles of a lightning storm for fear of exploding.

This happens all of the time. There is little to no risk to a defense contractor when they are asked to develop a new weapons system.

Then the pilots simply need to go around lightning storms like commercial pilots do every day. Sure there's waste in the government, look at our public schools, the VA, the DOJ, the IRS it's everyyyyyy where in every agency. Libtards are OK with waste unless it has to do with the DOD which they hate (to many damn flags every where). beside the military didn't even want the F-35 it was forced on them by politicians who you probably voted for.

More on the boondoggle known as the F-35.

WASHINGTON — The US Air Force won’t lift weight restrictions on F-35 pilots until 2018 — at the earliest — as more testing needs to be done to address safety issues with the jet’s ejection seat, Defense News has learned.

This news is another blow to the Pentagon’s Joint Strike Fighter, which is fast approaching a critical deadline this year to declare the Air Force F-35A variant operational. The pressure is also on for the fighter jet to make its expected European debut at the Farnborough Air Show in the UK this summer. In an embarrassment for a program with years of cost overruns and schedule delays already under its belt, the plane was forced to skip Farnborough in 2014 after an engine fire grounded the fleet.

If 2014 was the year of the engine, 2015 was the year of the ejection seat. The issue has dogged the Pentagon since last summer, when Defense News revealed concern about increased risk of neck injury to pilots during low-speed ejections prompted the services to ground lightweight pilots. Testing of the seat, built by UK company Martin-Baker, last August showed an “elevated” risk of injury for F-35 pilots weighing under 165 pounds, and an “unacceptable” risk for those under 136 pounds, according to the Air Force.
Let's throw some more money at it. Money cures everything.

Sounds like the Republicans figured out a way to keep women pilots out of combat after all? :o

Since Obama lowered all the standards and physical requirements for women in the military and required affirmative action in recruiting, there's more than enough hefty heifers serving in the Air Force that don't have to worry about being to skinny for the F-35. After seven years of Obama most of the buff and intelligent women have either been pushed out (white)or have left because of what was being done to the military.

Justme...This has been going on since George Washington led his troops. I doubt very much that Obama has the time to worry about the weight of female pilots in F-35s.

Justme, I really worry about you. You are so obsessed with Obama that I'm sure that the Secret Service has you on their radar. I advise you to get a life. Get outside once in a while. Visit your family. Take a walk in your neighborhood and talk to people about the weather, your garden, your dog or whatever (avoid politics or people will know you are insane.) As I've stated before, politics is very complex and the "obvious solutions" we all think will solve everything are usually wrong or will make the problem worse. I too, think Obama has been a poor President. I chalk this up to inexperience in how our political apparatus works rather than the "Obama Conspiracy" to turn America into a Muslim nation. I know that Obama was a constitutional scholar but he lacks the finesse to get Congress to work with him. Tip O'Neil and Ronald Reagan were polar opposites, but they got a lot accomplished by compromising.

Remember that none of us knows what happens behind the closed doors of the White House or what is in the minds of the leaders around the world. I remember reading that the first morning briefing the George Bush received made his face go white. I'm sure that if we had read that briefing our views would be a lot different. I'm happy that I'm not the President.

Congress's primary job is to be the voice of the people and keep the President in check, they've done a very poor of it. The people haven't supported Obama's changes and Congress hasn't kept him in check. Obama has done more long lasting damages to this country than any enemy could have done.

Congress' primary job is to pass legislation for the whole nation. They also allocate money. They're supposed to work with the president.

You, and the rest of the Tea Party, might want to consider taking at least an 8th-grade level civics class. Or not.

Correct but Obama has ruled as if he feels they work "for" him.

Ryan, like Boehner, has not met his responsibility.

Instead of being afraid of negative press if he shuts down the govt for a few weeks, Ryan and Boehner have fully funded Obama's agenda.

Amnesty for illegals, uncheckable Syrian refugees, the debacle of Obamacare, Planned Parenthood selling baby parts, Ryan just funded it all.

Last time the govt was shut down (by Repubs due to Dem lack of cooperation), what happened? Well, Repubs won big in 2014.

Ryan and Boehner have been spineless.

There is a door to Grog's perception of himself.

Neither Jim Morrison nor Aldous Huxley expected a person as egregious as Grog.

The F-35 program, which began in 2001, is 70 percent over initial cost estimates, and years behind schedule, but top US officials say it is now making progress. Lockheed is developing the F-35 for the Marines, Air Force and Navy, and eight countries that helped fund its development: Britain, Canada, Australia, Norway, Italy, Turkey, Denmark and the Netherlands. Israel and Japan have also ordered the jet.

Der Speigel, citing classified documents leaked by former US intelligence agent Edward Snowden, reported 18 January 2015 that hackers affiliated with the Chinese government stole "many terabytes" of sensitive military information including plans of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) – the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. The stolen data contained details of the stealth fighter's "radar systems which are used to identify and track targets; detailed engine schematics; methods for cooling exhaust gases; and "aft deck heating contour maps".
If the Chinese have all of the plans for the F-35, is it still the super weapon that we hope it will be?

Meanwhile, in the United States, the cost issue that was so pivotal in Canada is equally relevant. At a cost of nearly $400 billion for procurement and $1 trillion for maintenance over its lifetime, the F-35 is the most expensive weapons program ever undertaken by the Pentagon. Under current plans it will consume the lion's share of the Air Force's aircraft procurement budget from now through the mid-2030s, even as the service seeks to buy a new bomber, a new aerial refueling tanker, and a new generation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Something will have to give.

A trillion dollars in maintenance costs? I'm sure glad that the USA has that kind of money because I don't. Oh wait, I am a USA citizen and that is my money1
