why don't former VW/RC members pool resources and start a site with pricing, terms and conditions and content which the members prefer?

The brand value of the VW franchise is permanently impaired at this point.

The VC site is pathetic, I would imagine that a team of former VW members reading this BB would be able to design and execute a better website.

We all know there is no existing competition out there.

Why not over from scratch?

I would be interested in joining a team of former VW members.

It's a terrific idea in theory, but a logistical nightmare in reality. Even if you have the tech personnel (there are programmers who view this site), they have to come together, create agreed upon blueprint, divvy up tasks, register companies and undergo review to process billing transactions, take time out to operate the site (most came here to get away from work and enjoy rather than make it a secondary job, if a hobby). Then they have to establish legal agreements outlining obligations, liabilities and responsibilities. All of these people would be in different geographic regions.

I've witnessed other sites crash and attempts made by a band of former viewers to launch a new home but it always seems to fizzle out quickly if it ever gets started.

Yes you are right it is not easy and it is lots of work.

However, there is also a potentially lucrative business opportunity here.

Let's face it, there is no competition for the former VW website in the market as of right now.

I would expect the next incarnation of the VW to be up before the member created site, but they have certainly created enough ill will to cause VW loyalists to consider other options.

I think this self inflicted VW fiasco has created a huge void in the global internet amateur voyeur/exhibitionist market and I am sure that somebody will fill that void.

An interesting concept, but probably not a practical one. I wouldn't even know where to start to understand the legal issues involved. You are talking about a great many different legal jurisdictions with vastly different ideas and morals surrounding erotica...and pornography. Not only that, but the laws involved change frequently in the way they are administered if not in the way they are written. Assuming you could pull a group of interested persons together...it would be almost an impossibility to get them to agree on many important issues. Perhaps all of that could be over come, but then if there is money involved...you know what's going to happen. And if there is no money involved, then it becomes a very time consuming volunteer project. Any guess as to where that would wind up? How easy is it going to be to bring in a large group of users to the site when it gets going 6 months from now? Granted, if the site was ready to go online right now, there would be a demand. But this group of people that is the community that we know as VW and RC is dispersing rapidly now. In month there won't be anyone left...or make that a week...or even a few days.

Sorry, I hate to throw water onto what at the basic level is a great idea...but I just don't see it working. Now, if on the other hand you were talking about starting a user group on Yahoo or someplace for people to keep in touch and let others know which site, if any they were posting at, that might very well work. But again it's a large investment in time and effort that few people would be willing to commit to.

But that said, if you find the interest in putting something together, I'd be willing to help out. I don't know what I could do to contribute...but who knows. Maybe I could be someone that screens the photos to make sure there is no 'pink' showing.

I've been thinking about building something to fill the void ever since VW went down. I'm not worried about the legal issues involved, but more about how to attract audience. I doubt VW or VC is going to let me self promote. I could purchase ad placement, but I feel the audience that I want lives here. No idea how to make the 2 connect.

If you are really serious about this, then here's what I would do if I were you. Set up a user group on Yahoo. It's pretty easy to do. Then invite as many people as you can by email, and post an invite on these BB for people to drop on in to keep in touch when this BB gets closed down. If VW does come back, then there is no point in your proceeding further, so you can close down your user group. If VW never comes back, this BB will cease to fucntion fairly soon so you should get cracking. The user group is free, and functions much like these BB, but probably could not handle a lot of traffic. That's not a problem because if you begin to get a lot of traffic, it's probably worth looking at actually starting a real site. If you don't get much response, or the interest dies quickly, then you are not out much except for your time.

Drop me a line, marmar, I'm in touch with several hundred HC subscribers, plenty of whom want us to start a new site.

Oh, and interesting "intel" -- I wrote them all yesterday and of the 50-60 I've heard back from so far virtually none have even visited the new site at all.
