There was a site offshoot that enabled us to upload our pics in a kind of personal area. I think it was the playground. Is that gone for good?

Nope, Playground is not gone for good, it is currently undergoing a total overhaul.

I am sorry, and agree that it is a shame. I do look forward to rebuilding the community, and am happy to see that you already have started!
