Political discussions about everything

One year ago, on October 29, superstorm Sandy swamped New York City and New Jersey. Although authorities did a terrific job of evacuating people, they were helpless against Sandy’s record-high storm surge. Today the city and its neighboring state are still trying to recover, and the struggles raise a stark lesson that coastal communities all along the U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast must take to heart: spending money, even lots of money, to protect against storms is far cheaper than fixing damage and rebuilding afterward.

I'm sick and tired of having my tax dollars rebuild some rich asshole's beach and beach house every time there's a storm. Though I do take great joy in watching mother nature take their POS out to sea .

I can't wait till 12 is completely washed away.

Stay your ass home. Keep your money. Go back where you came from.

Both the federal plans and state plans have moved more and more to paying out insurance in high susceptibility areas and taking the land. Considerations are make for commerce. Lands taken are generally turned into park land available to the public for recreation. More of this needs to be done.

There are exceptions that should be made. Like flood zones make great farm land because of the flood. River commerce activities need to continue. Flood proof hotels, restaurants, and other facilities still need to be at least close to potential flood areas. Camping areas can still be in flood zones. Losses can be mitigated and flood insurance can be required.

We are not there yet, but policy and law are making progress.

If you don't like it you can do more than be a total teagagger moron. You can propose solutions right here, and even better you can write you government representatives and push for rational progress. Oh, sorry, you are a teagagger, all you can do to make dictatorial demands in anger and with malice towards all people without any considerations for others and their circumstances.

Progress is already being made. More needs to be made. That is a universal truth that will always exist.

Even farmers will want compensation if their crops are flooded . Enough is enough. Don't allow building of any kind or farming.....declare all those flood zones wild refuge areas and let mother nature do what it will with no interference from humans. As it is.....those morons are going to build again, this time on stilts. The destruction will be worst next time, again endangering the morons and the brave souls that risk their lives to save them. Enough is enough.

Insurance benefits should always be paid out.

Grants should be rational and compassionate.

teagaggers would clearly shoot themselves in the foot and destroy economies and people's lives for some false sense of morality. We have seen that for years.

the teagagger moto:

"Let's cut government until we are back in the good old neolithic."

I have no issues with people building in flood zones or beach front properties. The government should be charging appropiate premiums so they can actually pay for damages without hitting up taxpayers.

If the government actually decides to do this, then I guarantee people will think twice about building...

Agreed Elk.

Also, national build code for flood zones that requires proper flood through foundations that raise the building one story above ground level and out of reach of floods. Some flood areas have this code. It's time for it to be national.

People often park their cars under the building. They also often have break away walls. These can be made out of fiberglass panels and lightly bolted to the foundation.

Of course, making up childish words such as "teagagger" just reveals that a person is incapable of serious discussion.

Nobody in the Tea Party ever suggested government not exist.

It is such ludicrous, childish stuff which the Left resorts to.
