Just a quiet reflection here Brothers and sisters of COFF.....
Today I guess is Columbus Day, 12 OCT 1492, and for me personally, its a bit of an Anniversary too (Not so many years though, he he he...but far more personal.) so I guess my sentimental & historical sides has been stirring most of Friday and today.
People laughed at Columbus with his crazy new idea, but he persevered and achieved his dreams.... I can relate. Cloumbus didn't want fame, he wanted to explore, to seek out nude life forms....( oh wait !!! That's Star Trek AND VW!!!!! )
Just a little lame attempt for humor in a late night ramble ha ha....! I'm probably projecting my self onto old Chris, but I find as time marches along I care less and less for my own desires and more for the things that will help my friends and those I love. (Winston is next to me, his muzzle is twitching like crazy with some unknown beagle dream, he's distracting but so darn cute!. ---see easily distractable...!)
I think it was much the same for old Chris, discovering a new trade route to improve the lives of his countrymen and women. A lot of people don't know it, but when he returned to Spain after his voyage, he had to remain for about nine months in the port unable to go to the King and Queen in the capital. You see, famine was so bad in Spain, cannibalism was rampant and travelers often were taken and killed by the starving locals along the routes. Yes surprisingly but true.
It was a tough world then and I can't help but think about how it probably weighed on his mind the idea that these peoples lives might be made better by his discovery. He was right.
There are few things as satisfying for me as to help others. Especially those I care for, even if its just a short note or hello.... Making their lives less busy, easier, even if it is just a small thing. I ,its the tiny things that I can do for the ones I care for and that they do for me that mean the most to me. Granted I am a romantic softy about a lot of things.... but a small enigmatic smile can move me more than I can say.
Columbus ended up devoting his life to helping build a new world for his countrymen. ( There are differing opinions as to whether Columbus was Italian or from the north of Spain, but suffice it ti say his countrymen and women were those in the society he lived and worked in. ) We come to COFF and contribute to make our community better, I like to think I contribute my share. And that lovely stunning gift from Trin was a real birthweek maker for me, just had to add that in there, ha ha! We have here the forging of a new community, a wee bit different but we work together to make it a better place as did our distant role model, Columbus.
I have enjoyed it here these last six years and just thought it might be nice to stand up and say it is you who have made it so pleasant a pastime for me. Thank you for your friendships and camaraderie and most especially for sharing your intimate selves in ways a lot of people wouldn't understand.
VW, not withstanding some insensitivity to her member/patrons/customers/ yeah, US COFF and COFFettes, is a wonderful place. I know a tiny bit about it and its so funny it has ended up to be so unique. But it has and it is, from the first tug of my hand to come see, to today, which is nice cuz it's special, VW has grown and continues to grow into a successful business and a wonderful meeting place for like minded friends and their benefits have made the VW community the heart and soul of what would otherwise be just another pitstop in the web filled with naughtiness and prurient fun. (Yes I got an "A" in Honors English but I like my sentences thank you very much!) Run on and Gor that gramerarian impulse!!! (. We don't always get what we want but often, God willing, we get what we need....
TO my dear friends, you know who you are, a toast to Friendships forged to stand the test of time, To Loves past present and future, To families and the special joys of those we hold so dear and finally to the end of this rambling post!!

May the blessings of light be on you—light without and light within.
May the blessed sunshine shine on you and warm your heart until it glows like a great peat fire—so that the stranger may come and warm himself, and also a friend.
And may the light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in two windows of a house, bidding the wanderer to come in out of the storm.
May the blessing of the Rain be on you—the soft, sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit, so that all the flowers may spring up, and shed their sweetness on the air.
And may the blessing of the Great Rains be on you: may they beat upon your spirits and wash it fair and clean and leave there many a shining pool, where the blue heaven shines reflected—and sometimes a star.
And may the blessing of the Earth be on you—the great round earth.
May you ever have a kindly greeting for those you pass, as you're going along the roads.
May the earth be soft under you. When you lie out upon it, tired at the end of the day. And may it rest easily over you, when at last you be out under it. May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be quickly through it, and up, and off, and on its way to God.
And may the gentle paw of Beagleness lay upon you and with his touch, lay calm to your restless heart..............
Enjoy the day, it should be beautiful!!!

"I would like a lifetime spent,
With an irrational and suspicious goddess,
Some short tempered jealousy on the side...
And a bottle of wine that tastes like you...
... and a glass that's never empty...."
