Why are liberals pointing to the Zimmerman case as an example Florida's stand your ground law should be done away with? That law had nothing to do with this case, Zimmerman was knocked to the ground and having his banged against concrete, he couldn't get up, he yelled for help several times, it was purely self defense, he had no way to retreat which is where the stand your ground law comes into place.

A great deal. Including the instructions to the jury.
Wrong again Bilbo. The defense waived the "Stand Your Ground" defense, they didn't even use it because it only applies to those who can retreat during a fight but chose not to retreat, that didn't apply to Zimmerman he called for help but got nonet, he was getting his head bashed in, Zimmerman didn't stand his ground, he defended himself.

Bilbo you need to watch more reliable news sources. Some how I knew you would bite on this one, you beat Elk to it. Now don't you feel silly?
George Zimmerman, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, waived his right to seek immunity under Florida’s “stand your ground” self-defense law before his June trial. Speaking softly and answering questions from the judge, Zimmerman said he understood and consented to his lawyers’ decision to waive the "stand your ground" defense.

Do you have to always be a total blithering dishonest moron, justupid.

As I actually said, the instructions to the jury were changed on ce the stand your ground law was passed and implemented. I said nothing about a "stand your ground" case. I said INSTRUCTIONS to the jury, as you already knew but dishonestly misrepresented.
#27520
So B37 who voted for acquittal lied when she said Stand Your Ground was part of their deliberations?

Hmmmm. If she lied about that, then what else might she have lied about?

JustFreedme, you might have shown how the verdict can be reversed.

You might have just gone from zero to hero with non-conservatives.

So??? they probably talked about a lot of stuff that had nothing to do with what happened in this incident There was three weeks of testimony, duh!!!. Bottom line is Zimmerman waived the stand your ground defense and it was never presented as defense. ;)
#27523
And now you're saying the judge erred by including Stand Your Ground in the instructions to the jury?

Dang! You are going to get Zimmerman's acquittal reversed before the end of the week.

You're hurling from pariah to champion for the non-conservative masses!

Leroy, Forbes, Painful Toot, Young Brandon and other members of your cadre will be disappointed, but virtually countless people across the nation will love you.

Your Fox law degree is paying off in ways few could have imagined.

You may want to read the jury instructions again!!!

:o

Look justupid. You really do not need to constantly prove beyond any shadow of a doubt how stupid and dishonest you are. It's become excruciatingly clear. No go find the very public document on jury instructions or read the real news where they have been published.
#27536
Justfreedme, it's on page 12 out of 27 in the jury instructions.

Surely an erstwhile Fox law student such as you knows how to use the Google machine to find information that is a matter of the public record.

Here's a little teaser "... and had the right to stand his ground..."

Good luck!

What does that have to do with the verdict? Zimmerman waived the stand your ground law therefore it didn't apply, you guys are so wacky. The initial decision not to arrest Zimmerman, former Sanford, Florida, Police Chief Bill Lee said last week (as paraphrased by CNN), "had nothing to do with Florida's controversial 'Stand Your Ground' law" because "from an investigative standpoint, it was purely a matter of self-defense." And as The New York Times explained last month, "Florida's Stand Your Ground law...has not been invoked in this case." The only context in which "stand your ground" was mentioned during the trial was as part of the prosecution's attempt to undermine Zimmerman's credibility.
Addendum: A few commenters note that the jury instructions in Zimmerman's case included "stand your ground" language:

If George Zimmerman was not engaged in an unlawful activity and was attacked in anyplace where he had a right to be, he had no duty to retreat and had the right to stand his ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he reasonably believed that it was necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony. In this case George Zimmerman is not invoking his right not to retreat since he claimed he had no means of retreating, he is claim self defense.

Now don't you guys feel silly.

Idiocy on steroids...

Then clearly, Justfreedme, you have proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the judge erred by specifically stating that Zimmerman "had the right to stand his ground."

You have provided the proof and reasoning for overturning Zimmerman's acquittal.

Nice work for a law student.

Will you be presenting your findings of fact to your local Citizen's Grand Jury so that they can then pass it on to the Florida Citizen's Grand Jury with authority for that district?
#27554
Appeal? Who's talking about appeal? You take this straight to the appropriate Citizens Grand Jury and an appeal becomes moot.

You have uncovered a grave procedural error that the state will most certainly want to hide at all costs.

This is your "Pelican Brief," JustFreedme. Don't get cold feet and chicken out now.

All your years of trolling the likes of Bilbo and Elk are about to pay off.

See it through to the end!
#27636
It's probably the lead story on Fox at 10:00.

It will be followed by your side of your interview with Streisand and then in the following segment Forbes will join you to discuss the history and far-reaching power of Citizen Grand Juries.

Must see TV!
#27642
Given the wacky nature of a grand jury -- the average one, as the saying goes, could indict a ham sandwich if the mood happened to strike -- what would the conceptual flaw be in having a prevalent grand jury system based on that model?

Look at the mess with the prosecution of Zimmerman. The police down there made the proper call originally, but race-baiting took over.

DoJ still wants to search around and find some way to prosecute Zimmerman for defending himself when he had a perfect right to do so.
#27694
1) Grand juries are only charged with "the likelihood of sufficient evidence to charge". A real attorney would know that.

2) Juries have obviously been co-opted by the court system. The intent and purpose of a jury is to arrive at decisions NOT based on legal technicalities, not as a judge would arrive at a decision. To use their OWN common wisdom as the common man understands.

So Shirley, what does that tell you about those who don't agree with the verdict?
#27735
A real attorney would know many things Bilbo (who can't spell "cat") would know.

But Bilbo's own low self-esteem is shown by his doubts.

Any bright person would know why people go to law school -- for lack of a better idea.

It doesn't take a genius (look at Quayle and Biden) to finish law school. All it takes is paying the tuition and attending class.
#27778
Bilbo, your problem is that you are obviously uneducated.

To you, an attorney is some person with credentials which seem, to you, as high as the sky.

But, Bilbo, that merely shows how low-rent you and your friends are.

In the real world, there's nothing even interesting about going to law school. In the D.C. workplace, nothing could be more common.

The Doles, the Clintons, the Obamas, all are nonpracticing lawyers.

Every federal agency is littered with lawyers, both in management and in staff.
