Political discussions about everything

The whole idea of a justice system is that it not only operate fairly, but have the appearance of fairness.

Sure, there are deranged leftists like Clown, but even Clown realizes that this particular judge can't be fair to Trump:

“I see the videotapes,” Chutkan wrote. “I see the footage of the flags and the signs that people were carrying and the hats they were wearing and the garb. And the people who mobbed that Capitol were there in fealty, in loyalty, to one man — not to the Constitution, of which most of the people who come before me seem woefully ignorant; not to the ideals of this country; and not to the principles of democracy. It’s a blind loyalty to one person who, by the way, remains free to this day.”

And, in making her statemens, did she know at the time -- or inquire -- how many in those videotapes and the hats they were wearing were undercover personnel?

There you go feigning a desire for "fairness" again when you yourself haven't shown any fairness about judges. You haven't started a single thread questioning Judge Cannon's fitness to handle the Florida case.

She has a track record already of two times she ruled in Trump's favor and had her decisions ridiculed by every legal expert in the country and then had her decisions overturned. It is not good when appelate courts overturn every one of your decisions. Those decisions were simply legally unfounded, blatant favoritism for Trump. Is that "fair" to America, johnny? Of course not. Did Cannon recuse herself? Of course not.

But has johnforbes felt a pressing need to question Cannon's ability to be "fair" in the case she is handling, despite the fact she has already demonstrated that she can't?.....or else that she is just plain incompetent, which is also not good.

When a post from johnforbes is more than just more partisan hypocrisy, then I will entertain it. Until then, fergit it. johnforbes is not a serious poster.

Yes, the goal has to be fairness in every case.

The flaw in the "thinking" of Clowntroller is beieving some Pyrrhic victory has been attained when some partisan judge misconstrues the law to go after some transitory political foe.

That is not how a real, healthy democracy functions.

The court system must be fair to all, whether we happen to like them or not.

If you disagree with Bernie Sanders, an avowed socialist, the courts must be strictly fair to him at all tiimes regardless.

It isn't enough, if we are to have a functioning country, to merely celebrate every judge who is biased in favor of whatever party is now in power.

Chutkin, in prior sentencing remarks, seemed to wistfully regret that her political enemy had not been arrested, and she seemed to foolishly believe that he was somehow leading all protesters based on "garb" and "hats" when it is now known that the protest group also included undercover agents and informants.

McCarthy pledged several times this year to release all the video and finally let ordinary citizens who are too bright to go to protests finally see what the heck happened that day. But he never did.

But the goal is for every judge to be fair to every person.

"The flaw in the "thinking" of His Lordship is beieving some Pyrrhic victory has been attained when some partisan judge misconstrues the law to go after some transitory political foe."-johnfibs

Then it's a good thing that's not what's happening in this case, isn't it. Dozens of Republicans have given evidence of crimes being committed by Trump and his cronies, so it would be "unfair" and a dereliction of duty not to prosecute him for those apparent crimes. After all, setting a precedent that Trump is above the law would end both our legal and political systems.

"The court system must be fair to all, whether we happen to like them or not."-johnflubs

Yes, it would be tremendously unfair to NOT prosecute someone simply because you don't like them. We are in agreement on that.

"McCarthy pledged several times this year to release all the video and finally let ordinary citizens who are too bright to go to protests finally see what the heck happened that day. But he never did."-johnflubs

And why do you think that is, dummy? Could it just be that McCarthy and the Republicans realized just how bad the footage made Trump supporters and all Republicans look? Are you trying to pass off McCarthy and House Republicans as just a bunch of RINOs? You stuck your foot in it again, dimwit.

Haven't the foggiest notion what might be on such videos.

Clown is more the hippie type to wallow in the mud of Woodstock, whereas Mr F was in uniform

However, the Let has sought to bale a whole lot of political hay from that mess and so it seems eminently reasonable at this late date to simply release everything and let ordinary people see what the heck happened.

Secondarily, what didn't Pelosi approve the added 10,000 Guard personnel?

"Secondarily, what(sic) didn't Pelosi approve the added 10,000 Guard personnel?"-johnfibs

Once again johnforbes swallowed his daily propaganda screed from his handlers without question. Thus this idiotic partisan nonsense coming only from Republicans with the aim of diverting attention from Trump's many prosecutions.

"CLAIM: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked the National Guard from coming to the Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. As Speaker of the House, Pelosi does not direct the National Guard. Further, as the Capitol came under attack, she and the Senate Majority leader called for military assistance, including the National Guard.

THE FACTS: On Tuesday, a false claim about the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol resurfaced suggesting that Pelosi blocked the National Guard from coming to lawmakers’ defense during the insurrection at the Capitol.

THE FACTS: On Tuesday, a false claim about the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol resurfaced suggesting that Pelosi blocked the National Guard from coming to lawmakers’ defense during the insurrection at the Capitol.

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy posed a similar question on Fox News saying, “Was there a decision by the Speaker not to have the National Guard at the Capitol that day?”
The answer is no.

“On January 6th, the Speaker, a target of an assassination attempt that day, was no more in charge of Capitol security than Mitch McConnell was. This is a clear attempt to whitewash what happened on January 6th and divert blame,” Drew Hammill, a spokesperson for Pelosi told The Associated Press in an email.

The decision on whether to call National Guard troops to the Capitol is made by what is known as the Capitol Police Board, which is made up of the House Sergeant at Arms, the Senate Sergeant at Arms and the Architect of the Capitol. The board decided not to call the guard ahead of the insurrection but did eventually request assistance after the rioting had already begun, and the troops arrived several hours later.

The House Sergeant at Arms reports to Pelosi and the Senate Sergeant at Arms reported to McConnell, a Republican who was then Senate Majority Leader. There is no evidence that either directed the security officials not to call the guard beforehand, and Hammill said after the insurrection that Pelosi was never informed of such a request.

Once Trump’s supporters were assaulting police and breaking into the building, Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer appealed to military leaders, asking the Army to deploy the National Guard.

“The Speaker believes security officials should make security decisions. The Speaker immediately signaled her support for the deployment of the National Guard when she was presented with that recommendation on the afternoon of January 6th. Public testimony confirms the fact that the Speaker was not made aware of any request for such a deployment prior to then,” Hammill said in a statement this week.

Republicans have falsely laid the blame on Pelosi without mentioning that GOP Leader McConnell had similar authority over the security officials that day. But there is no evidence that either was involved in any effort to block the National Guard before or during the insurrection."-AP Published 3:07 PM PDT, July 23, 2021

Now, will johnforbes stop pressing his partisan propaganda diversions from the thread topic in favor of the facts? Of course not. Spreading partisan lies is his raison d'etre on this forum as your typical traitorous Trump supporter.

And will he stop portraying every Republican in Congress as merely RINOs? That they still refuse to release 40,000 hours of video that johnny will never watch anyway, will that give him a single clue as to the contents of those incriminating videos? Of course not. johnforbes desperately clings to his ignorance for the implausible deniability is affords him.

Not true.

What really happened apparently was that Pelosi scheduled her daughter, a documentary film maker, to be present that day.

Pelosi's daughter recorded people merely leaving in a slow, orderly manner -- not taking flight as if they were in fear of anything.

Why didn't Pelosi approve that request for 10,000 Guard personnel so that the protest could have unfolded as protests do, with loud and unreasonable people urging this or that point?

Rational people know that protests, from the Left or the Right, don't make much difference anyhow, so the BLM and Antifa rioters in 2020 looting and burning didn't change much, and the other protesters were not destined to change anything anyhow.

But Democrats instantly started baling political hay off the protest-turned-riot or whatever the heck it actually (the average citizen has no idea at this point given all the partisan spindoctoring).

johnny, the Jan. 6th 'protest' was not just like every other protest.

It was an organized conspiracy (as proven by multiple criminal convictions of conspirators) designed to overthrow the peaceful transfer of power for the first time.

You can't shrug off the seriousness of the crimes committed by pretending they were just a bunch of clowns who got out of control. It was orchestrated.

And there is no mystery about whether the 'protesters' were calmly walking around the Capitol as you keep pretending. Most weren't. You have been shown the videos of them destroying doors and windows, assaulting police, wielding weapons while calling for the deaths of Pelosi and Pence, seen them using military tactics moving through the crowd, and overrunning the House after causing our elected officials to flee for their lives. Guys with bundles of zip ties on their belt are not "peaceful protesters" as you are dishonestly pretending. Peaceful protesters don't need zip ties and would never take them to a protest.

You would never watch 40,000 hours of video even if they were released, and your Republican handlers don't want you to watch them. That's why they refuse to release the videos. They clearly show that the 'protest' was an armed insurrection, which is not good for the brand, is it.

Get a clue already.

Footage floating around the Interwebs shows all sorts of weird things, including a guy with a mask, and a wire in his ear, who was behaving oddly.

And, of course, the protest did -- whether catalyzed by agents or Antifa or whatever -- deteriorate into a riot.

Looks like nobody will ever ascertain what Ray Epps and folks like that were really doing.

But, with McCarthy not releasing all the videos, the ordinary person who doesn't go to protests (like me) still ends up not knowing what really happened.

"And, of course, the protest did -- whether catalyzed by agents or Antifa or whatever -- deteriorate into a riot."-johnfoibles

There wasn't a single Antifa supporter there, dummy. And those clowns using military tactics to get through the crowd and into the Capitol were obviously not government "agents". They are Trump supporters. And they are convicted of seditious conspiracy. Undercover agents would start a riot without making a glaring spectacle of themselves.

The riot was "catalyzed" (nice euphemism, dummy) by organized seditious conspirators. And Epps was trying to prevent the riot. he has a track record of Trump support also. Try to keep up with your partisan propaganda, johnny.

Don't you think if they were government agents they would have sung like canaries at their trials instead of going to jail for years? Forget about their years-long documented record as Trump supporters.

Of course, that is unknown.

Speaker McCarthy promised to release all of the video, and didn't. Also, apparently what he would be able to release anyhow would merely be whatever was not held back for security-of-operations purposes.

Without all info, nobody on either side of the partisan divide can really say.

The former head of the Cap Police, Steven Sund, said the event was crawling with undercover people et al., so sadly the ordinary law-abiding citizen such as myself is left without full information upon which to base an opinion.

Throughout 2020, BLM and Antifa rioted and burned all across the country, and Democrats minimized that or cheered it on.

PA Governor Wolf marched shoulder to shoulder with protesters, while at the same time locking down citizens. In Statuary Hall, Pelosi and other Democrats were kneeling down to show their solidarity with BLM/Antifa.
