I have mixed feelings about this. Great article, gives arguments both for and against the firing.

BTW: At a open conference with Congress and the Pentagon, The Joint Chiefs were ask what they needed to fight the Corona virus and they stated that they hadn't assessed the threat yet.

That is one risk of having electronic devices -- the ability to hit "SEND" before thinking it through.

He has sufficient rank to know that he should go through the chain of command.

Has anyone even heard an excuse, good or bad, for Crozier's behavior? When I heard of this, I was simply bewildered that any ship captain would do such a thing.

Now if he claimed the chain of command hadn't responded to him, then that's at least an excuse. Not a good excuse, perhaps, but an excuse.

Crozier's firing doesn't look like retaliation to me. If anything, it seems he's getting off easy. Releasing such information about the possible readiness of a fighting ship to the general public and to our adversaries strikes me as careless at the very least and possibly rises to dereliction of duty at the other extreme.

I think that as soon as an epidemic was known to be spreading, every ship captain in the Navy should have immediately been making plans to protect his ship and crew in the event of a shipboard outbreak, not to mention trying to keep it off the ship in the first place. Requests for any needed help to prepare should have been going up the chain two months ago.

Has anyone seen reports of any of this happening?

Trumpers cheer on a war criminal Navy SEAL and now are sliming a Navy Captain who was looking out for his crew.

No strawberries and ice cream for you dickhead.....

He was not looking out for them ..he was trying to save himself..
By asking for outside help, he was telling them he didn't have confidence
in them to handle the ship..! :O

So much so that they cheered him as he disembarked.

The Captain broke no laws and he will not face and legal charges. And apparently we have a situation where those in higher echelon are responding to critiques by firing underlings who sound the alarm.

When it comes to whistle blowers, we wouldn't have been in this situation if Chinese government officials didn't try to cover up the initial reporting of the corona virus to begin with in the first place. As with everything else the coverup is worse than the crime.

Anybody who had been in the military for one day would know why the cpt was relieved.

People cheering him for having perhaps the right motives, that is understandable, but he went about it the wrong way.

With command goes responsibility...

Just a guess, but probably there is more here than meets the eye.

Perhaps there was some slumbering problem which made it impossible for him to attain more rank?

Everybody knows that it takes political skill to get flag rank.
