Watched show about the financial crisis last night. I got to thinking how we Americans have become a nation of sheep. Anyone can destroy us and we complain a bit and then pat them on the back and say thank you for fucking us in the ass and taking our money.
1. Holder stated recently that Justice will not bring any charges in the financial mess that nearly sunk this country.
2. There will be no new regulations to rein in the financial industry. The financial industry has over 5 thousand lobbyists working Congress to ensure that the status quo remains as it is.
3. The gang of thieves that caused the crisis either left with huge bonuses and their fortunes intact or are still raking in huge salaries and bonuses.
4. While the corporate boards are supposed to set policy for the corporation and pick the CEO and set CEO compensation, most of the boards are selected by the CEOs. Many board members sit on multiple boards and have little knowledge of the corporations inner workings.
5. Many college and university presidents sit on multiple corporate boards and devote a huge amount of their time to the corporation to the detrement of the educational institution.
6. The "too big to fail" financial banks are bigger now than they were before. Should we start calling the CEOs "too big to jail?"
7. AIG persuaded Congess to relax regulations on the insurance industry so that they didn't have to have a cushion to pay off their clients if a financial crisis hit. It cost us 100s of billions of dollars.
8. Most financial academics feel that another crisis is likely and could happen in a matter of months rather than years,
9. 37 states are in danger of bankrupcy. Illinois is one of the worst with California a very close second. Most state pension funds are woefully underffunded and will not be able to pay out benfits in the future. The present mindset of decreasing federal compensation to the states will accelerate their downfall unless a complete restructuring of how states obtain their revenue is created.
10. And then there's jobs...without jobs the present recession will continue indefinately, consumer demand will decrease more and more, Federal and state income will decrease more than it already has with the resulting chaos creating civil unrest and the possiblity of a radical form of government, our infrastructure will deteriorate more than it has resulting in huge negative impacts to business, crime will increase when people refuse to watch their children go hungry, more homes will go into foreclosure with the result being an increase in homelessness, more banks will fail destabilizing the community, non-profits will see severly decreased revenues and many will cease to exist, food crops will become scarce due to the lack of a domestic market and the possiblity of intervention by Federal troops to qwell civil unrest.
11. This is the first time in American history that present generations are less educated and earn less than their parents.
Not a pretty picture is it? But we just sit by and watch as our way of life disappears. When was the last time you contacted your leaders? when was the last time you questioned you elected leaders? When was the last time you donated to the political leader you supported? Are you as educated as you should be on political issues? Do you even know who your Congessperson or Senator is? Who is your County leader or city mayor? (In my area people raise hell about taxes but they usually support all bond issues, Who do they think is going to pay the interest on the bond?) How many here do not vote in elections? If you do not vote you have no right to bitch.
