The news of Justice Kennedy’s retirement interrupted a DNC committee conference call on Wednesday, prompting audible sounds of anguish and crying from the Democratic leaders.

“Justice Anthony Kennedy has just announced that he’s retiring,” one person told the group.

“Ooooooohhhh Nooooooo!” one person yelled out.

“Oh my God,” another exclaimed.
