Four years ago Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee, stood before the American public and definitively stated that Russia was America's biggest "geopolitical foe."

This week, the far-and-away Republican poll leader Donald Trump gave Vladimir Putin a big, wet kiss, calling him "a strong leader" and saying it was a "great honor" to have Putin compliment him.

Trump said he called Putin a strong leader because he has 80% approval rating among Russians.

The Obama administration imposed sanctions on Putin and his cronies. Obama essentially got in the way of Putin's "cut" of the profits. So obviously Putin will not be particularly thrilled.

Putin needs significant resources to go on military adventures and to operate a state controlled propaganda network to get those 80% approval ratings. With the economic sanctions, $35 oil, and a cratering currency let's see how long how long Putin will last for....
