A much-loved longtime law enforcement canine lost its life last night as members of France’s elite hostage rescue and counter-terror team known as RAID assaulted a Paris apartment safe-house containing individuals suspected of planning another attack, according to reports.
The Belgian Sheepdog named Diesel is said to have died as it made its way through an apartment building ahead of a tactical team to look for booby traps and explosives. As the dog was going about its mission a woman wearing a suicide vest and toting an AK-47 suddenly appeared, blowing herself up shortly after engaging police.
During that exchange and explosion, Diesel was killed, the BBC reports. Five members of the police team were also lightly injured during the engagement. More than 5,000 rounds of ammunition were used by police in the siege and the apartment building is so badly damaged that it could totally collapse.
Muslims hate dogs, another reason I don't trust them.

Diesel was seven years old and highly trained to integrate with RAID’s teams who face some of the the most challenging tactical scenarios imaginable. The hero dog’s death has resulted in a flood of social media tributes, with the hashtags #Diesel and #JeSuisUnChien making their rounds on Twitter.
In all, two suspects were killed and seven were taken into custody. There are conflicting reports as to status of the supposed terror mastermind of the Friday the 13th Paris attacks and whether he was at the apartment building or not.
The attackers who were sacked by the RAID team are said to have been about to strike Charles de Gaulle International Airport and a major shopping district in central Paris.

Obviously not one of those “non-threatening” widows the President was assuring us not to worry about.

Denying the refugees entry is literally playing right into ISIS’s hands. That is the precise response they wanted from these attacks, for the world to be scared of Muslims and to shun them away, driving more of them into ISIS’s ranks. Good job on doing your part for them.

Stop trying to reason with reactionary bigots. They're dead set in their wrongness.

How do you know who she was? If you haven’t realized.... all but one of the terrorists was a French citizen. You might want to brush up on things that are going on between French government and treatment of minorities, and how ISIS had an easy time recruiting disfranchised youth in the suburbs.. But you know... you do you...and stay ignorant.

Still gotta try. Some of them might see the light.
Also, I should note, we do need to screen the hell out of the refugees we are taking in, but by no means should we stop letting them in.

That is the correct way to respond to terrorists who kill your dog.
France. Fuck yeah!

The terrorists didn’t kill that dog. The handler who trained it to do something he didn’t want to do himself killed it.

Good lord. What did they do, have a few dozen officers mag dump into the building multiple times?

Right? I want to see that 10 min video. Just a dozen officers smoking their barrels. Each one with their own mag-mule. No way they had that many loaded mags, right?
Or maybe they just had a fundraiser for the survivors. Pay 10 euro to unload a mag into a terrorist hideout. I’d pay for several rounds personally.

Remember — it’s still just a dog, but we have one more Daesh in hell and probably countless innocent lives saved.
That’s a solid win.
RIP, officer Diesel.

I agree. He was a great tool, and I’m sure a wonderful companion to many, but nevertheless a tool for a specific job. I know how tough it is to lose a dog, but I’m thankful a human officer’s life was saved (probably many times) due to this sacrifice.

Interesting. Just a dog you say?
Im going to wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. That “dog” was an asset to the entire team. It not only saved their life, but did it without pause. Im positive that team loved that dog like they loved any of their fellow officers.
It sounds like you’re not a dog owner. Dogs are amazing animals and saying “just a dog” discounts them in ways you obviously wont ever know.

I love dogs. I also love cats. (But not rodents — screw them). But I’m not going to put any of them close to the same level as humans. If I had a dog who attacked my kid, the dog would be dead within 30 seconds. There’s no decision for me there.
In the pet owner world (sorry, “pet parent” world), the status of animals seems to have become a lot more exaggerated since the Internet, elevating them to almost human status — often to superhuman status, as if we confer to them additional rights because they’re loyal or fun. We genetically engineered them for that, it’s by design.
Police and military dogs definitely deserve elevated status for putting themselves in danger, but also for the resources and trust we put into them. But like I said, still dogs. If ISIS said they’d gun down 100 police dogs or one policeman, that’s an easy decision.

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but I am strongly opposed to the use of police dogs in this kind of capacity. I think it’s cowardly and cruel to train an animal that trusts you completely and unconditionally to do something you don’t want to do yourself because it’s “too dangerous for a person.”
You’re turning a living, breathing being into a furry, pain-experiencing drone to avoid going in harm’s way yourself, which I find sickening. I have no objection to using working dogs in roles where their senses make them superior to humans, like drug or explosive sniffing. There, the dog has a job that makes sense, and doesn’t primarily consist of being hurt so the handler isn’t.
Training a dog specifically so that it can take a bullet, get stabbed, or be blown up instead of a human police officer, and then having the nerve to portray that dog as a “hero” and mourning it shouldn’t be acceptable.

You’re reading the intent wrong - they’re not sending the dog in to trigger booby traps and explosives so that the humans won’t get caught in the blast, they’re sending him in specifically because he can detect them better than we can, through explosives sniffing and other senses we can’t match. I guarantee that they didn’t spend the manhours, resources and love for a police dog just so it could be a mine canary.

The dog was there specifically to sniff for explosives (something you mentioned in your comment, but failed to notice in the article). Something they are far better at than humans ever could be. The dog was not there to take a bullet or blow itself up. They are trained not only to find them, but to not set them off. Unfortunately the asshole with the explosive belt had other plans.

as others have stated, these animals are used only because technology cant do what a few hundred thousand years of Evolution did already.
they arent trained to trigger the bombs (remeber, the jihadi jockey detonated her own vest) but to detect and detain suspects.
i gurantee you if Jihad Jane up there hadnt killed herself, the Dog’s handler would have made sure she got sent straight to hell.

I don't think that Diesel? The chest is colored differently to my eye, but I guess it could be the lighting.
