Barack Obama wanted to galvanize Democrats when he insisted this week that his policies are on the ballot in November. Instead, the soundbite has already become the centerpiece of new Republican attack ads.

Former White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod said on Sunday it was a mistake for President Barack Obama to say that his policies are on the ballot this fall.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Axelrod said that if he were still an Obama adviser he would not have included the line in the president’s speech last week in which Obama said: “I’m not on the ballot this fall ... but make no mistake, these policies are on the ballot — every single one of them.”

“It was a mistake,” Axelrod said.
