While Obama can only think of drawing lines in the sand, German Chancellor Angela Merkel shows him how it's done.
Recalling the old adage - "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer", Angela in a phone conversation with Putin accused him of breaking international law, but also proposed setting up an international contact group to facilitate in normalizing the situation in Ukraine. Putin agreed.

1. Obama should not have mentioned possible sanctions against Russia. This only closes the door to favorable negotiations.
2, Don't send Kerry to the Ukraine,...he's a jerk, plus it would only show Putin that we have already taken sides.
3. Don't cancel the meeting in Sochi.
4. Call Angela, make sure the US is part of the contact group.

Kerry is a fool who will say very dumb things at any time.
Kerry proved this in the 1970s when he believed false information and falsely accused an entire generation of veterans of behaving like Ghengis Khan.
Don't take my word for this; you can Google Kerry's idiotic testimony to Congress from long ago.

Merkel needs to step up. The EU needs to step up and lead on this. It's their, not our backyard.
Seems like only yesterday that conservatives where whining that the U.S. "isn't in the world's policeman" when Obama stationed a couple ships off Syria to lob some missiles in if necessary.
Some might say that no matter what Obama does or doesn't do, the GOP will clamor for the opposite no matter how absurd and hypocritical their clamoring is.

Or was that Chaka Khan?

Then Obama should have kept his mouth shut. But it's too late now. If he can talk the talk, then he better walk the walk.
Merkel is not going to propose any sanctions...not yet anyway. Germany depends on Russia for natural gas and imports more than any other European country. But if push comes to shove Germany, with it's stronger economy, would win the sanctions war.
