Obamaphones

Since 1934, the Feds required phone companies to charge customers to fund the Universal Service Fund to subsidize phone service in localities that won’t pay for telecom infrastructure or services.

In 1997, Congress added a lifeline program to provide phone service subsidies for the poor.

In 2008, this phone subsidy was extended for mobile phones for the poor [these are sometimes called Obama-phones in the media].

Now the FCC wants to change this program to Connect America Fund to subsidize broadband services for the poor.

Thanks for nothing, johnny.
You presented a few facts that we all got off the news, but you included no opinion or discussion.

If you have a point, make it.
Otherwise you're just wasting everyone's time. You're useless.

Cliwnhicker has dialed the wrong number, as usual.

The Lifeline program has existed since 1985.
It was designed to provide telephone service for qualifying low-income consumers -- to provide poor people with access to emergency services, families, and jobs. The program was expanded in 1996 to include cell phones. The first cell phone service was begun in 2008, provided by SafeLink Wireless, under the TracFone umbrella
And as I understand it, tax payers do not pay for it.

Benny, it is paid for by phone subscribers among the mysterious "other charges" (taxes) on their monthly bills.

Yep, tax money is free, it comes from the Government, not you and me, that's fact.

RealTool, except for bitcoin, all money comes from "the Government, not you and me,"

They print it into existence out of thin air.

(RealTool is fooled by the Fed printing money to 'buy' government bonds.)

johnforbes should dial one of those 900 numbers and ask how one removes the annoying shaft from his rear end.

Cliwnhicker already dialed 1-800-CLN-DOPE.

As Benny alluded, they probably should be called Ronniephones.

Snopes is just a couple, both liberals, with really no credentials whatever.

So what Snopes says might be correct, or not.

It's usually correct in most instances. In this instance it is correct.

As a conservative you are, of course entitled to believe whatever you believe are in fact, facts, but that doesn't make your beliefs real world facts, regardless of what you believe.

The reality is far more complex.

Pretty much all perception is subjective.

People who lazily toss around the word "fact" have never taken a course in epistemology.

If you don't think there are such things as facts, then I had better correct my post, johnny:

Thanks for nothing, johnny.
You not only provided no actual facts, you also included no opinion or discussion.

If you have a point, make it.
Otherwise you're just wasting everyone's time. You're useless.

Clownhicker, pause a moment and ponder what I wrote.

It is beyond your ken, but reflect a bit and do some Googling.

Look up "epistemology" and see what it is.

The reality is far more complex.

Pretty much all perception is subjective.

People who lazily toss around the word "fact" have never taken a course in epistemology.

I know perfectly well what epistemology is, you arrogant snob.

In the world most of us live in, if I am in a crosswalk and get hit by a car and then end up in the hospital, it is indisputable that I was hit by a car and put in a hospital. It is a fact and it's not subjective in any way. Your philosophy 101 bullshit about me only THINKING that I was injured and that I am in the hospital when I really might not be because there is no way to know if what we experience is a valid representation of reality is merely mental masturbation for the likes of you.

Using the word "fact" in everyday language and discussion is not the same thing as using it in a philosophy classroom, you buffoon.
But if you still believe it is the same, then my post stands.
By your own standards, you didn't post any actual facts and you didn't provide any discussion or opinion.
You're useless and your thread is useless.
And that's a fact.

In the conservative mind, such as it is, real world facts are entirely subjective if they do not conform to the conservative's beliefs.

Witness the triumphant ratings of Fox News as overwhelming evidence.

What I can't figure is why johnforbes is upset about paying taxes for welfare and lazy people's phones.

After all, he only THINKS he is paying taxes and he only THINKS it is his money when all the while this might not be the case. He might simply be returning the money to its rightful owners. Who can know?
Besides, it is only his subjective opinion that he shouldn't pay such high taxes, but since he might not actually be paying taxes, it's not actually a fact that he is paying taxes, he's giving himself hypertension over a figment of his imagination. That's downright foolish.

Relax, johnny, for your own sake.
Gladly pay more and more taxes, stop being upset about it, and take comfort in your conviction that the joke is on the rest of us since you aren't really paying them. We only THINK you're paying them.

^^^^^There's nothing like an imbecile telling someone who was hit by a car that it's theoretically possible he might not have been hit by a car.
