While many motorists remain stranded in their cars on roadways in Georgia, officials are working to get food, water, and other necessities to those who have nowhere to go.National Guard vehicles were called in and police officers were used to escort home the children who were still at schools.

In Atlanta, some National Guard troops handing out MREs, the food U.S. soldiers are eating in Afghanistan, to motorists stranded on the highways were verbally attacked for not bringing hot meals and not rescuing them sooner. Tunku Jennings complained that she waited over 12 hours in her car, freezing and hungry then they marginalize her by putting her in the back of a Army truck and toss her a plastic bag with cold food not fit for a dog. Other blacks had similar complaints, most blaming the Governor who is white, not the major of Atlanta who is black.

I blame Ray Nagin, former mayor of New Orleans, who is black but must have been white racist for his incompetence in dealing with Katrina.

The Governor was responsible, the freeways are State owned not the city's, plus leaving someone stranded for 12 hours is totally inappropriate, they could have at least used heated busses to pick them up instead of piling them into the back of military trucks like cattle. As far as giving them MRE's I'm mixed on that, maybe they didn't have a chance to provide hot meals. You can rest assured the Governor has lost the black vote, you just can't treat people like that, no matter what their color.

I've eaten MRE meals. All in all, especially if the alternative is no food at all, they aren't too bad. If you prepare them properly (presupposing the idea that you can read the directions...and that may be a leap considering the mentality of those being given the MRE meals during the storm in Atlanta) they get quite hot.
You would think people would be grateful to be rescued no matter the vehicle doing the rescuing, but apparently not these people. Next time let them sit for a few more hours, then ask if they would like to get in or sit on their fat ass and freeze. And that brings up another subject, how cold can it really get in Atlanta? Certainly not -20 and below. THAT is cold. Sissies.

Excellent point, a private company would be accountable and on a budget, if their performance was as bad as what the public workers was they would and could be replaced...not to mention they could do at a fraction of the costs.

It was a none issue and shouldn't have been more than a passing comment on the weather and traffic conditions. The idiots complaining because no one came to their rescue with warm meals and comfortable transportation are asses.
