Michelle Obama gets theatrical on stage during 'Careers in Film' symposium at the White House. The First Lady, 49, took to the stage and told high school students attending the event that she quite fancied herself as a Disney princess after hearing composer Alan Menken talk about how he had created scores for films including Beauty and the Beast.

Closing her eyes, with both hands clasped to her chest, she exclaimed: 'I don’t know about you guys, but I was listening backstage, and I just wanted to put my ball gown on and twirl and twirl.'

The panel on stage - made up of movie director Harvey Weinstein along with actresses Whoopi Goldberg, Blake Lively and Naomie Harris - also responded with a smile.

The event, which started at 10am was designed to teach black high school students from Washington DC, New York and Boston about the film industry. Workshops provided them with an opportunity to learn about animation, special effects, make-up, costume, directing, music and sound effects. Leaders in the film industry also talked about how they achieved their career dreams and battled various obstacles.

Continuing her address, Mrs Obama said: 'I want to start by thanking Harvey Weinstein for organizing this amazing day. 'This is the first time that we have brought young people into the White House for an event like this.
And from what I heard, and what I saw for myself, I see you guys dove in pretty deeply on this subject.

The event was moderated by Mrs Obama's friend and This Morning host, Gayle King.

Other film industry figures in attendance included Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler and Silver Linings Playbook producer, Bruce Cohen.

Michelle ignored questions concerning how much the event was costing tax payers and how many Hollywood celebrities were coming in for the two days of formal events to follow.

Implicit but not stated in the invite was the directive to bring along the checkbook.

The White House isn't owned by the temporary residents thereof.

It is indeed implicit that one should write a check after such an invitation.

Why else would anybody invite a dope like Whoopi anywhere?

Fund raising is prohibited at any public owned facility or building...the last I heard the White House belongs to the public, not Michelle or Barack.

It's cute how RealTool parades his ignorance of how money is raised by all politicians and how the legal issues are carefully skirted by the Republicans and Teabaggers, exactly like everyone else.
