Been following both sites and hope this works, but also am skeptical and would love to see a screenshot. As I noted in an attempted post that didn't seem to make it through on another thread, every day of delay has to be hurting badly and giving the other side a leg up on getting user submissions and members. No matter how awesome the site design is, there comes a point where you lose the race for credibility and users. Be interesting to see if this, fairly innocuous, post makes it past the censor.

Seems reasonable.
Is there really a huge lag while someone checks the contents of a message?

Good grief MARKS, everywhere I turn I see your posts whining about the same thing. Think "message dilution". Sometimes more isn't really better.

That's exactly right. And I was the first one to bring up the matter of a simple screen-shot of the new portal page being posted. Seems like a simple enough thing to do since she's already seen the new VW design and it's "amazing". And it wouldn't take anytime at all since a screen-shot is nothing more than a picture. Even if she doesn't have access to the 'beta' site, she could at least say to a developer/webmaster, "It would go a long way toward regaining trust if you could just take down what's there currently and post a screen-shot of what the new site is going to look like on our index page." Just sayin.

A screen shot might be nice, but really, what would a static image prove to the many skeptics who keep beating this drum? I'm hoping that a nice, functional VW will return soon, but I could not care less if it is a breakthrough in website technology and design. THIS is your big concern?

I don't particularly care, but it is a valid request.
A screen shot proves that there is something actually to see, not just a story with nothing behind it.
Yes, they could template a screen and we would be none the wiser. If however they do in fact have a website nearing completion and roll-out, which they have to now if they are to make a Sunday opening, they should at least have multiple screenshots of multiple pages which, when we see the real site Sunday, will look very similar to the final pages.
If however the screens they show us today look radically different from the final screens, we would know that there was in fact no demo site and they had templated the demo.
So a company who is not approaching completion would never risk showing a screenshot because it locks them into design, etc. before they even know if it will work. When we see a radically different final site, we would know we were being duped.
But a company who is approaching completion will risk showing a screenshot because they know the design will not radically change, they will be able to explain the few changes that do occur, and it will provide retroactive proof that they were being on the up-and-up.

Incidentally, I noticed that my early posts were delayed for review for some time before being published while my posts now go straight to published (I assume you see what I see).
Maybe its just because I have already have some posts go through review, but the fact that they are not pre-censoring everyone still is a healthy sign.

It (a screenshot) would
prove that there's actually something being done to rebuild the site. Especially since the site already exists (she's seen it) but hasn't been launched yet according to Katherine. She's the same individual who initially said VW would be up and running within 4-7 days, then, after that time expired said, it might take another week. And after saying that, said it would be less than another week, but not to get mad at her if it takes longer than another week. Make of all that what you will.

Wanna see how fast you can upload a screenshot? Here's my wife's little titties. I even had time to crop and insert text before posting this link.
http://home.comcast.net/~storedfiles/screenshot.jpg
What did that take? About 15 minutes since my prior post?
Notice, I uploaded it to my own server, not VW or VC.
BTW? That's her first post ever.

That's interesting, and somewhat encouraging. And it's not like you've been all sunshine and light!
I don't know what their policy is. I've urged them to only premoderate those posters who have started causing trouble, but I have no reason to think they would listen to me.

Great website Chancelot! Now there's no reason at all for me to wait for RC to be back. Now I know how much a VW screenshot will mean. But seriously, I hope you have LOTS of pictures of your wife in your database for us -- she looks wonderful!

Rugrollers, I don't know if it's becasue they've become more familiar with some people's' postings, if they've gotten more confident, or if they've simply improved the BBS functionality, but my posts went from a one day delay originally to instantaneous these days.

LOL. It's not a website, it's my own storage space that just about any ISP provides you with. Perhaps you'd like to see another screen shot. You know. Just to prove how easy it is for even an idiot like me to post one ... Here ya go. This is what FOX NEWS looked like a couple minutes ago.

I'll be taking down the pic of the wife in a moment, but feel free to share it with others if you saved it. The point was to show you all how quickly a screenshot can be taken and posted.

Gosh, Chancelot, I liked the ORIGINAL format of your website SO much more.

But I can't find the index to see more images. I've read about hidden links...where do I click?

And ......... it's gone.
See how easy that was? Now why can't VW do that?

To be honest, there really IS a lot of back-end (stuff you don't see that makes it work) that goes on with a site as large as VW. WAY more than you could possibly imagine if you don't code. But doing something as simple as updating a splash-page on a daily basis isn't part of it.

Agreed Chancelot -- tons of work setting up a multi-location, heavily-trafficked, high-bandwidth website and I can only imagine the issues involved. But one would have to be a little naive to think that a "screen shot" image would demonstrate anything significant. True, it might give reassurance to some that at least something is happening behind the curtains and perhaps make some feel that they are at least being listened too when they make requests, but I don't think it would make me any less anxious (Or more anxious?) to get VW back.

I don't know, I think Marks aggravated and agrees this is a very reasonable request. I mean they only took our money and they have really only came up with some excuses that may or may not be true....I think we all would like just a little insight to where we're all at. The money really doesn't matter too much in the scheme of things I just want to know if I'm wasting time waiting for this site to come back.
Here is the answer of the higher ups: No screen shots. VW has been around for 15 years and it has proven itself over and over by proividing uninterrupted service. Now, just because some disgruntled employee decides to pull a stunt, there is doubt that VW, which has been functioning uninterrupted will come back. That is absurd. VW is not going anywhere just because of the actions of some disgruntled former employee. .And for the few of you who think it is, then you can certainly leave and never come back if it offends you that we will not post screen shots. The only reason "marks" wants us to post a screen shot is so that ***** can get a sampler of what we are doing, so he can try to be ready for it. Just moronic. No screen shots and no samplers. The site will be up shortly. As of today, the technical guys have not changed their deadline on when the site is coming back up.

What a piss poor way of talking to the paying customers that made this site what is was the last 15 years.
I have paid every year since Redclouds started and can see with that kind of attitude you have got my last dollar.

A reaction like this comes from someone that is in over their heads. No company that is in the position that VW is in, would talk to their customers this way IF they planned on keeping them

Not only that but, her answer, "No screen shots" and her <ahem> reasoning behind it (Igor might learn something) is a load of crap. What's he gonna learn from a picture? It would contain no website code. And besides, once VW goes live again (if it ever does) how are they gonna stop him from seeing it or <gasp> hitting 'view source' in his browser?
