US House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner pitches short-term debt-ceiling increase ahead of key White House meeting . Stocks on Wall Streets picked up sharply as word seeped out of a meeting between Mr Boehner and members of his Republican caucus.

“I would hope that the president will look at this as an opportunity and a good-faith effort on our part to move halfway - halfway to what he’s demanded - in order to have these conversations begin, now Obama needs to move halfway or a shut down in six weeks is all on him.” Mr Boehner said after detailing the plan to Republican members.

AP political reporter Kasie Hunt called Boehner's move very artful and one that will force Obama to give in on several GOP demands on Obamacare or face being the one who results in a shut down. Now the ball in the Democrat's and Obama's hand and they're caught off guard and not sure what to do with it.

What am I missing here? John Boehner just wants this to drag out 6 weeks longer as I understand it he hasn't agree to Obama's demands. They have had two years discussing this, what it 6 weeks going to do? How does that make Boehner the big man that resolved this crisis?

Now for the rational analytic financial explanation for the Dow pop-up.

A great many entities were shorting the market. Boehners announcement made them afraid that the disaster they were expecting just might not occur. Thus, they needed to jump in and cover their shorts, buy the market, driving up the market, temporarily.

That's one explanation. And, without knowing the details of why people made their trades yesterday, we won't know.

For myself, I put in new money each and every month. I do that regardless of whether the markets are up, down, or sideways.

As to ongoing investments, I've been moving more over the past few years to very large cap.

Emerging markets are now underperforming, and I'm trying to decide whether to move more toward them or whether they'll continue to underperform for the next few years.

You want real data, Obama has increased our debt more than all other Presidents combined and people are worse off than when he came into office, especially the poor and middle class, now that's real data.
