Before Sandy hit here in NYC, I got cash, filled the pantry with non perishables, and topped off the tank in my car.
Luckily since underground power lines are used in my neighborhood we never lost power. The job lost power for three days so I couldn't do work, even using VPN. With catastrophes that create widespread power loss, there's really nothing much that you can do.
