They’ve been mostly silent until now, but evangelical Christians are coming out publicly in support of a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, making the case that immigration reform is a Biblical issue.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a group of 300 evangelical leaders will gather next week in Washington, D.C., to lobby lawmakers on the divisive issue as negotiations in the Senate inch closer to producing a bipartisan reform bill.

“Republican lawmakers take guidance from evangelical America on social policy issues,” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum. “That evangelicals have taken on immigration bodes well for passage of comprehensive reform.”

Not everyone agrees with the new position that evangelicals are taking, however, including GOP Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, who believes evangelical leaders ought to use the Biblical passages they cite with caution.

“The Bible contains numerous passages that do not necessarily support amnesty [for illegal immigrants] and instead support the rule of law,” said Smith. “The Scriptures clearly indicate that God charges civil authorities with preserving order, protecting citizens, and punishing wrongdoers.”

This GOP tool has got to be kidding. You don't need to justify every action by quoting passages in the scriptures. This clown can't think for himself?

If you want to know what Christianity SHOULD be you stick to the only scriptures that purport to be the teachings of Jesus, the Gospels. The OT is at best historical and since Jesus preached against the laws and traditions of the priests and scribes it's difficult to see how any OT justification for prejudice stands except as a rationalizatio0n of the prejudiced. Past the Gospels there is still much good but it is mixed with the formation of an autocratic power structure which Jesus preached against in the Gospels.

Following the teachings of Jesus as well as the lord, we have 10 Commandments - one of those is very applicable to Illegal Aliens "Thou shall not steal", and yet you and others support them stealing from Citizens every day.

And lets not forget this one, the other teaching that directly applies to Illegal Aliens, since you bring up Christian values: "You shall not covet‡ anything that belongs to your neighbor"

They covet our resources, our money, our homes, our jobs, etc....

Jesus said that there is no need to obey the ten commandment.

Only if you take his actions and statements out of context, which is a typical liberal tactic.

He continues to preach following the 10 commandments and he even tells followers to follow those rules through all of the bible.
