If an old t-shirt will somewhat contain the aeroslized droplets, then it might arguably do some good.

Again, they never said masks were "not needed." They said masks were "not needed now" by the general population on march 31st because they knew everyone would panic and clear the shelves of all PPE desperately needed by frontline workers who couldn't get them. They never said people shouldn't wear makeshift masks.

Knowledge of the virus and how it spreads has improved. Policies based on the state of ignorance about the virus on March 31st should not be held to any longer. Not one Republican governor will ever take even a tiny bit of blame for their foolish and lethal political partisanship and public policies. Not one of them will ever blame Trump for sending mixed messages for six months, ridiculing the pandemic and those who tried to slow it down, confusing Americans and sowing distrust of Public Health instructions.
