When told about their anger, Trump had a simple response "I didn't pull back NATO troops, I pulled back American troops, Germany and France are free to send their militaries in to replace them"

So true.

One reason to rethink a stale old alliance such as NATO is the sheer absurdity of it.

Will France ever come to the rescue of America?

Would Turkey help the US?

Neither will Germany or any other NATO country. It's like a 3 year old and a 20 year old entering into an agreement that if one is physically attacked the other will protect him, in the mean time the 20 year old has to pay the majority of any costs.

In the aftermath of WW II, with Soviet presence in various parts of eastern Europe, perhaps NATO made some sense for the US.

But decades have passed since that time, and even when I was there American soldiers were disgusted with protecting longhaired German and Italian boys who should have been protecting Germany and Italy themselves.

Agree there was a time, especially during the cold war, there was a positive for the United States to have our tanks and soldiers forward deployed in Europe. But those days are gone and so how wars are fought. The only reason we still have so many troops still all over Europe is other countries been using them to fight their wars for them if something does happened, it also saves them billions since the US taxes payers are funding most of their defense costs.

Time to move our troops back to the good ole USA except for a few Air Force bases. Our defense costs would drop by 50% and America would be safer.
