Jussie Smollett says the drop is because most of the people who were watching Empire were fans of the movie because of him and when he was fired he took those fans with him.

Talk to people who used to watch Empire and they'll tell you that Jussie exposed how racist and hate filled, he and other actors in the movie really are. When the other actors threatened to strike if Jussie wasn't brought back, fans packed their bags and moved on.
