U.S. Unemployment Rate Drops To 3.7 Percent, Lowest In Nearly 50 Years

The U.S. jobless rate dropped to 3.7 percent in September — the lowest since 1969, though the economy added a lower-than-expected 134,000 jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. The jobless rate fell from August's 3.9 percent.

Average earnings rose 8 cents, to $27.24 per hour last month. But wage growth slowed, with average hourly earnings up 2.8 percent from a year earlier, compared with a 2.9 percent increase in August.

Many of these reports are later revised, and I bet this one will be as well.

The low job creation figure is puzzling, but I'm sure the Left will cheer the historic unemployment rates for women, blacks, Hispanics, and Asians.

Surely they will give Trump some credit for these historic figures?

But Trump DID do shit, didn't he. He gave Carrier millions of dollars and they shipped the jobs to Mexico.

And he gave money to Harley-Davidson and they shut down a plant and moved to China.

And the trade deficit with China has increased to record levels after Trump criticized Obama for the trade deficit with China, saying it was proof of failure. Which means Trump is a bigger failure.

Trump also put tariffs on everything, causing retaliatory tariffs which caused fewer exports and higher prices for workers in America. This is exactly what Republicans have been criticizing Democrats for doing for years.

So you're right, Trump did more than Obama. That the unemployment rate has dropped is purely a coincidence and simply a lucky fluke against all Trump's efforts to fuck over workers.

I give Obama credit for making a heck of a lot out of puffing pot in Hawaii, transferring to Columbia, getting affirmative action, etc.

Heck, I think he did a great job of getting a Nobel Peace Prize for having the potential to bring peace to the world, but not doing it.

The sad thing is that he didn't make the country better, although he had the bully pulpit to do so.

Elkin, I don't smoke anything, and it is a very serious debate whether to legalize any substance which helps people kill themselves driving.

As for economic data, the sensible approach with any such number is to look at the overall trend over at least 3 months rather than homing in on any one number.

Any investor knows that.

It was the CIA who put a dope peddler on a street corner back in the 80's. it needed a way to buy guns without the gov getting involved. So they put dope dealer on the corner backed by the Contras in a black neighborhood. it took off from there.
