*** to CNN indicated Democrats in the House had already drafted up impeachment proceedings that would be based upon Cohen's testimony, they had inside information that Cohen would testify that Trump did collude with Russians and had sent him to Prague to meet with them. He was expected to say that Trump had told him to lie to investigators and Congress about the collusion. But that all fell apart when Cohen testified to just the opposite.
WASHINGTON — Leading congressional Democrats are all steering clear of impeachment chatter a day after President Donald Trump’s former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen testified.
“I’m not going into that, I’m not going into that,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, said at her weekly news conference Thursday, quickly dismissing talk of impeachment.
Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., like Pelosi, downplayed the idea that his panel's seven-hour hearing had represented a significant leap forward on the impeachment front, which contradicted his predicted just the day before, that Cohen's testimony would lead to President Trump's impeachment with clear evidence of collusion with the Russians.
