Ocasio-Cortez cheers as Amazon scraps NYC headquarters

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a victory lap on Twitter Thursday over news that Amazon is scrapping its plan to build a new headquarters in Queens.

“Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world,” she tweeted.

The freshman Democratic lawmaker had been a vocal opponent of the deal to lure the online retail giant to Long Island City — which would’ve given Amazon $3 billion in city and state subsidies in exchange for bringing a projected 25,000 jobs to the area.

Cortez just lost NYC 25,000 good paying jobs and all the spending that comes with it. 70% of New Yorkers strongly supported Amazon opening their second operation in NYC. Amazon citied Cortez' threats to force them to pay more taxes was the deciding factor that NYC isn't business friendly so will look else where. As Amazon pointed out "Why would want to build a large operation in a city where voters selected politicians that start attacking us before we even start construction?"

The funny thing is all those insiders who bought up properties surrounding the area they were going to build now will have to sell at a loss! The Clintons were among those who invested 100's of millions in the area just before Amazon's announcement to build there. Hillary probably wants to pull that bitches greasy hair out.

New York wanted to give Amazon a $30 million dollar tax break. That means no one gives receives money. Its called a tax break. In return Amazon would pay $25 million in taxes to the state over a period of time. In return employees would spend their heart out adding revenue to the state coffers. If libturds understood economics 101 they would have known this.

And once the locals realized that it was raw deal then it was doomed...and rightfully so. That price they would have to pay was just too much.

So now these people announce some deal that would have given up some 3 billion dollars in tax revenue. And all of the locals are saying who will be paying for the infrastructure costs associated with 25,000 new people coming into the area. So obviously that didn't sit well with them.

I think if they would have gotten input from the locals from the beginning then they could have certainly extracted better terms from amazon and worked out a deal. The city attracts plenty of investment capital without offering any tax incentives.

It was Amazons $3 billion...
NY was going to provide a $3 billion tax break in exchange for $25 billion in economic activity that would have produced considerably more than the $3 billion the city would have given up. Meanwhile, all of those $100k+ jobs will now go somewhere else.

For someone who has a degree in economics-AOC’s financial illiteracy is staggering.
