He let Americans know what a long term government shut down would feel like with 800,000 workers not getting paid. He then made his case for boarder security while giving Congress 3 weeks to fix the border issue before another shut down. Just as Democrats asked.

If in 3 weeks Dems don't give him what he wants he will be able to make his case that he's done everything in his powers to reach an agreement that protects our boarders but democrats would rather have another government shut down than deal with border protection. He will point out he offered protection for dreamers but democrats weren't interested.

WAIT FOR IT! Trump will then step in and say to avoid another government shut down he is using his emergency powers to protect our boarders and by the way, changing the laws to protect dreamers was offered but is off the table since the democrats were more concerned with allowing in illegals than they were protecting dreamers.

Trump is the master, he's set it up for him to be the hero when he is "forced" by democrats to use executive action to protect American and avoid another government shut down.
