After a full military career, there are many reasons why a general would want to move on to civilian life.

First, he may want to avail himself of Boards of Directors -- a classic way in which retired generals cash in.

Secondly, anybody who knows D.C. knows that working in any White House is a pressure cooker, and turnover is high.

Were it otherwise, Obama would not have gone through four Defense secs.
