Many questioned the wisdom of spending over $50 Million on a system that no knew if it would or not. Well that investment paid off yesterday and the developers and politicians are celebrating. It gave Los Angeles a whole 3 second warning before a 4.4 hit.
Earthquake early-warning system successfully sent alarm before temblor felt in Pasadena. California’s nascent earthquake early-warning system had ar successful run Tuesday night when a 4.4 magnitude temblor hit the La Verne area.

Seismologist Lucy Jones told reporters at Caltech on Tuesday night that the system sent out a warning three seconds before the shaking began to be felt. Residents who live near the epicenter said the quake packed a punch. Vickie Carillo was sitting with her son on the couch watching “Jaws 2” when they felt the shaking start.

This success will be a significant boost in obtaining more federal funding, defying an earlier proposal by President Trump to end federal funding for the program. There's an additional need of $16.1 million annually to operate and maintain it.

Three seconds?

Man, that isn't even long enough to play the 45 rpm record of Elvis singing "All Shook Up."

I can just imagine what Trump is going to tell them when they start pitching the 3 second warning as warranting another $50 million in federal funds to keep it going. I betcha the people on that project are suffering hang overs today from all the celebrating that the needle moved a whole 3 seconds before the building started shaking.
