Democrats Release Tax Hike Plan

This week, Congressional Democrats released a detailed tax hike plan that they promised to implement if given majority control of the House and Senate after the 2018 midterm elections. So much for the crocodile tears about the deficit--Democrats want to raise taxes not to reduce the debt, but rather to spend that tax hike money on boondoggle projects.

As you might expect, hold onto your wallets. Here are the details:

Increase the top marginal income tax rate from 37 percent to 39.6 percent.

Increase the corporate income tax rate from 21 percent to 25 percent

Trump tax cuts expected to raise federal deficit to $804B this year

WASHINGTON — A new budget analysis says the combined effects of President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and last month’s budget-busting spending bill will send the government’s budget deficit toward the $1 trillion mark.

That’s the word from the Congressional Budget Office, which says the twin tax and spending bills will push the budget deficit to $804 billion this year and just under $1 trillion for the upcoming year.

CBO says economic growth from the tax cuts will add 0.7 percent on average to the nation’s economic output over the coming decade. Those effects will only partially offset the deficit cost of the tax cuts. The administration had promised the cuts would pay for themselves.

The deficit would permanently breach the $1 trillion mark in 2020 unless Congress reins it in.

Did I think banks should have been bailed out? Hell no.

Schumpeter talked about creative destruction, and I have always thought that it was necessary for this or that business to fail from time to time.

That can certainly be sad for individuals, but it is healthy for the economy overall in the long run.

It was also my opinion that pressing interest rates down to the zero bound and keeping them there was an unprecedented and risky idea.

As with any investor, I tried to make money in that environment, but investors must always try to do well in whatever environment.

Well, johnforbes is on record as preferring an economic depression over a serious recession.

And thus such "creative destruction" wouldn't have been needed in the first place.
Creative destruction is meant to apply to obsolete structures in an economy. Banks are obviously not obsolete yet, so regulating them better is all that would have been needed, along with some regulation of the derivatives markets of those investment banks.

It was all for nothing, johnny. We don't have to have that sort of economic upheaval any longer. It is caused exclusively by unfettered greed, not by 'creative construction'.
