WHY IS OPENING THE MEMBER SECTIONS SO BAD?

Here are a couple of alarming perspectives on this (offered anonymously and redacted for obvious reasons)

VW Admin, please respond to these concerns in the only sensible way -- by closing these sections immediately, not shooting the messenger!

_____________

The worst concern that all the contributing members to VW should be worried about is now all the locked down areas are wide open to internet spiders, google, etc. In 24 to 48 hours all your photos from the members area will be search able on the internet, if you havn't noticed the googlbot has been hanging out in the BB's since they started it.

____________

<snip>
Opening funbags to public is suicide. All it takes is to run a "grab the entire website" software for a few days (if you have a fast connection) and you have it all. I bet you will see gazillions of clones of funbags popping up all over Russia and god knows where within the next days. Image search engines like google image search and bing image search are probably already indexing all the pics...and starting to link to "similar" pics, e.g. faces. Same with RC and HC on a smaller scale.

<snip>
I know many ex-RCers and ex-HCers who posted on those member sites because they wanted to be sure to excluded from the search engines. What about those? Their pics and vids of the past 12 years are indexed by search engines right now! The entire RC and HC community has been burned by the hijackers of the VW domain name - forever and there is no way to reverse that. The internet never forgets any pic or video.

I'm afraid your only real option to request removal of your copyright material. Send a very specific listing of URLs to VW. The action on that request will not likely beat the search engine bots, as they are already crawling through the site.

There's not even a hint that VW/RC/HC wanted to prevent this. A simple HTML metatag for nobots would have minimized the damage.

Send a very specific listing of URLs to VW.
Faq, do you have any idea how retarded that statement is?

Some people posted indiscriminately on RC for years on end. To even suggest they should have to request each and every URL be taken down is the height of arrogance.

Now I know you have been a Igor butt kisser of the highest order over the years, but Igor ain't even here man!

He's not referring to the bulletin board posts. (Those aren't even up) He's referring to actual submissions of contris. Most submitters would have relatively quick ways to find out when they posted

Since VW came back up I have gotten emails from three different contributors all basically saying the same thing.
They posted to pay sites to allow some form of protection towards the content they were posting.

While I applaud VoyeurWeb for recognizing that they needed to do something I now feel that the opening of Redclouds, Homeclips, and Funbags in such an unrestricted manner is a bad idea. Especially in light of what Canada is currently experiencing with Justice Douglas.

I believe that if VW wants to provide a free trial membership to these areas it should at a minimum do so by making people register, even without a credit card. Providing some form of protection in the form of captcha software would at least slow down the more basic bots. Forcing a $1 membership fee for a select amount of time would do much more for providing safety and security for these areas.

We think this could have been handled differently! The "beta" site could have been put up behind a "firewall" type arrangement and they could have "invited" a test community in for observation (while they put security together). That would have allowed for testing without opening a once private (sort of) community to the world.

Now the posters are really exposed and the VW management does not care at all!!

You might want to think about this before you commit to this site ever again. This is being handled in the most amateurish and unprofessional manner possible.

Good luck all you posters, you might as well go post (faces and all) on OCC. :oops:
