All last year, the polls oversampled Dems and thus showed Hillary winning. The goal was to give Repubs a sense of futility so they would not vote at all.

On election day, even the exit polls said Trump didn't have a chance. Journalists emphasized that in order to drive down Repubs who might still vote.

Not until 10 pm or so on November 8th did it dawn on Dems that their scenario was wrong.

All this year, the polls have still been egregiously oversampling Dems to make it appear as though Trump's support had collapsed.
