Trayvon Martin receives posthumous aeronautical science degree. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. –  A South Florida university awarded the degree to Trayvon Martin, Saturday. Martin’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, took the stage at Florida Memorial University’s commencement in Miami Gardens to receive a posthumous bachelor’s degree in aeronautical science on their son’s behalf.

Trayvon’s father said he was deeply moved by this community’s show of support. “Today was just a prime example of what our community is built on, and just watching all the 2017 graduates come across the stage, and just to share that moment with them, it was very powerful, this degree demonstrates the great potential Travon had to become something before his life was taken.” he said.

In 2012, 17-year-old Trayvon was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman, who was later acquitted of all charges.

Trayvon's texts, which may still be found online, are filled with spelling errors and cursing.

When my mother began teaching, it was a profession, but unions came in and today it is more like a trade.

Teachers used to dress like professionals, and today the average golfer dresses as well.

Security guards never used to be needed in schools; today, they are essential.

Teacher aides didn't exist in the old days, but today they function almost as paralegals or PAs in physician offices.

And the kids, they stare at cell phones all day.

As to human nature changing in a few decades, it hasn't.

What has changed is social standards.

Teachers used to feel like professionals, dress like them, act like them.

Today, the typical teacher wears a polo shirt and jeans, and the typical student wears shorts and stares at a cell phone all day.

Kids used to grow up doing manual labor. Today, kids don't have their first job until they are young adults and even then it is an easy job flipping burgers in the air conditioning.
