This is something I have been saying for years. Did you know that the Pentagon cannot account for $6 billion of its appropriations for the last three years? Did you know that a four-star genral with 30 years service retires with about $13,000 a month? Did you know that there are about four officers for every enlisted man?

For a complete report on the makeup of our military go to this site. (221 pages, the most complete report I have ever seen.)

How much does the United States spend each year occupying the planet with its bases and troops? How much does it spend on its global presence? Forced by Congress to account for its spending overseas, the Pentagon has put that figure at $22.1 billion a year. It turns out that even a conservative estimate of the true costs of garrisoning the globe comes to an annual total of about $170 billion. In fact, it may be considerably higher. Since the onset of “the Global War on Terror” in 2001, the total cost for our garrisoning policies, for our presence abroad, has probably reached $1.8 trillion to $2.1 trillion.
This from another report:

With the proposed US buildup in Iraq to fight ISIS, I have a couple of questions.

1. With females making up 14.3% of our military, I wonder how many female service people are going to be sent to Iraq.

2. What is going to be the effect on the American public when one or more of those females are captured by ISIS and are sold as wives for the ISIS fighters (as Christian women are.)

3. What will be our response when ISIS overruns some of our military and tortures and kills them?

4. Will our efforts in Iraq ensure that the Iraqi Army will stand up and fight for their own country?

5. What is being done to make sure that sensitive military equipment does not fall into ISIS control?

I agree, the military are far under paid for their service. Even our top Generals retire at only 150K a year, while CEO and top Federal Executives retire with 500K plus, ask your self, who has given more? it's a shame when a Director of one of the hundreds of Federal agencies all retire with more than our top soldiers. Hell even many union members who don't supervise anyone retire with more. The average soldier only gets 35K in retirement pay after 30 years or hard service, most retire from the military with a net worth less than 30K. Thanks for pointing the injustice out.

Dude, since you're concerned about missing money, do you know we have a person running for President that also can't account for $6 billion under her leadership? So who in the military that was responsible for their budget is running for office, give us their name and we'll insure they don't get our vote and call for them to be held accountable. Will you do the same for Hillary?
The State Department misplaced and lost some $6 billion due to the improper filing of contracts during the past six years, mainly during the tenure of former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, according to a newly released Inspector General report.

The $6 billion in unaccounted funds poses a “significant financial risk and demonstrates a lack of internal control over the Department’s contract actions,” according to the report.

Justme-I don't know why you are attacking me about Hillary. I wouldn't vote for her if her only opponent was the leader of ISIS.

So you acknowledge she should be held accountable for losing the $6 billion while she was in charge of the State Department?

johnforbes is too stupid to understand that it is RealTool who's in the "jam" over his "toast remarks" because he has been saying it for years now and no still toast has materialized.

johnforbes may not be well bred, but he is well "heeled" from getting so many boots up his ass as he's regularly kicked about the forum for his idiocy.

No estoy de acuerdo! I've been spot on, in 2009 Democrats had the White House, the Senate and the House, they've lost the Senate and the House (toast) and will surely lose the White House next year (toast). Obama and the Democrats are toast! :D
