This impresses on me how little power we really have. These guys got caught; how many didn't?
For most people, pleading guilty to a felony means they will very likely land in prison, lose their job and forfeit their right to vote.

But when five of the world's biggest banks plead guilty to an array of antitrust and fraud charges as soon as next week, life will go on, probably without much of a hiccup.

The Justice Department is preparing to announce that Barclays, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and the Royal Bank of Scotland will collectively pay several billion dollars and plead guilty to criminal antitrust violations for rigging the price of foreign currencies, according to people briefed on the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

This kind of thing by itself should prove to fools that corporations are not "people".

People go to jail and suffer actual life-altering consequences.
Corporations pay a fine and go about their business.

Government workers who break the laws and abuse their authority are rewarded if it forwards the agenda. If the media finds out and bothers to report it, the public employee is moved to another public department as punishment.

Interesting to note that some of those same corporations are owners of our nation's railroads and as such responsible for upgrading and maintaining the railway systems.......

Hence the reason the GOP objects to giving these assholes taxpayer money.

And that is also wrong. But remember the media is just the propaganda machine for the politicians who are owned by the wealthy and business classes. You were raised as a little rich boy and you don't realize this?

The GOP rakes in a fortune from the banking industry.

Guess who's trying to roll back financial regulations.

Probably nobody here believes that lobbyists should control as much of D.C. as they do.

I'd be among the first to criticize Boehner and McConnell for being in the back pocket of the US Chamber of Commerce on amnesty for illegals.

Democrats want illegals to vote Democrat and turn America into a total welfare state.

Those who manipulate the unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. In almost every act of our lives whether in the sphere of politics or business in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires that control the public mind." - Edward L. Bernays, the father of American propaganda

Grog, you aren't a citizen, you don't pay taxes here, you don't vote here and so you don't have a say in anything here.
And for certain, nobody clicks on the dozens of links you post here or on your now defunct humiliation and surrender thread.
So why don't you crack open another few Molson's and dream dreams of Can-uh-DUH, eh?

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen is balking at turning over some of the documents ordered by a key House lawmaker in his investigation of a possible leak of market-sensitive information.

The big question is why are all members of Congress, the President and his staff exempt from inside trader laws? It does explain how they all become millionaires on their investments and it also explains why they approve some items that make no sense. Most people would agree that politicians should not be exempt from inside trader laws.

.....So precisely what does a central bank do?

You would be surprised at how few people can actually answer that question accurately. The following is how Wikipedia describes what a central bank does…

A central bank, reserve bank, or monetary authority is an institution that manages a state’s currency, money supply, and interest rates. Central banks also usually oversee the commercial banking system of their respective countries. In contrast to a commercial bank, a central bank possesses a monopoly on increasing the monetary base in the state, and usually also prints the national currency, which usually serves as the state’s legal tender. Examples include the European Central Bank (ECB), the Bank of England, the Federal Reserve of the United States and the People’s Bank of China......

...a leading university group on Saturday voted to censure the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) for firing Professor Steven Salaita after he made comments critical of Israel's attack on Gaza last summer.
Hold on there pilgrim, he never worked for the University of Illinois so how can they fire him? The dude went on a social media blitz about his hatred for Jews so the University withdrew a job offer which was "contingent" on a background check among other things. They discovered he was all over social media calling for the destruction of Israel calling Jews baby killers. They didn't try and silence him, or fire him, they just didn't want to hire him.

June 15, 2015, marks an astonishing, almost inconceivable anniversary: 800 years since the signing of Magna Carta, at Runnymede, and with it the foundational idea that there are limits upon the power of the sovereign. That our rulers must not be above the law.....
