Once again we attack the one who posted and we do not discuss the issues. As for being a conservative, I've stated before that I reject such terms as they are meaningless. Most of us are liberal on some issues and conservative on others.
As for my comment about Maryland being Socialist; well, you should live here. You would see what I mean. We have a "flush" tax (sewage) a rain tax, a sales tax on everything except groceries and prescriptions, Many (most?) of our fees (for licenses and inspections) have tripled or quadrupled in the past few years, our licensing boards are run by contractors so that it is very hard passing the licensing exams to go into business. Our roads are getting terrible, our port is run by an Arab country, The MD.Highway Trust Fund, The Chesapeake Bay Fund, the State Employees Pension Fund have been put in the General Fund by O'Malley to balance the budget. In a few years the pols will cry that they have to raise taxes because the funds are gone. 1 out of 8 in Baltimore City is a drug addict. (For those of you that watched "the Wire" on HBO ; most of those incidents shown actually happened.) A guy who lives around here was shot in a drug deal. He is now on disability and food stamps and he is applying for SS.
I live about 15 miles from Baltimore City. I haven't been inside the city limits in about ten years. Luckily, my business covers from Baltimore to Philadelphia and down the Eastern Shore to Virginia. The house I lived in until I was 8 sits in an area that looks like Germany after WW II. When major events are shceduled in Baltimore, anyone arrested for minor infractions is transported to the city limits and told to make their way back home on their own, By the time they get home the event is over and the suberanites have returned to the counties.
As for politics, the Democrats in Maryland used to practice voter fraud all of the time. "Walk around money" was famously used to buy votes by paying someone to vote for sick, elderly or drunk voters, Precinct bosses would have parties to keep people from voting "the wrong way." BTW...Tommy DeAllesandro Jr., one time mayour of Baltimore, was Nancy Pelosi's father. Tommy Jr. was kicked out of office for corruption. Tommy III (son of Tommy Jr.) later became mayor and played golf for 4 years.
The State Senator from my county has spent $7 million to retain a safe seat in the Maryland Senate. The job pays $43,000 a year. Years ago the bar owners used to run for state office. Each year they raised the tax on a barrel of beer (42 gallons) 5 cents a barrel. The price of a glass of beer went up 25 cents each year. The bar owners would say that the price rise was because of the big tax increase by Maryland. Naturally the people fell for it.
Maryland is the 4th highest taxed state.
