No Reporters on Michelle Obama's Trip to China. First Lady Michelle Obama will be accompanied by her children and her mother on her trip to China, which begins today. But she has banned the press on the trip although the trip is classified as official travel, therefore 100 percent covered by tax payers.

"Michelle Obama’s trip to China starting on Wednesday will be a 'people-to-people exchange' emphasizing the importance that both nations place on education. As if to underscore the point, no reporters are traveling with the first lady, and she does not plan to give interviews while there," reports the New York Times.

The White House is defending the first lady bringing her family along for the ride by saying it's what the Chinese would want. "Tina Tchen, Mrs. Obama’s chief of staff and a first-generation Chinese-American, said a multigenerational visit would be appreciated by the Chinese, who value tradition," says the Times.

But in America, the trip is not without controversy. "Mrs. Obama is drawing scrutiny for her decision to travel with her mother and her two daughters, who are on spring break, bringing to mind a vacation classified as "official travel" she took to Spain in 2010 with her daughter Sasha and several friends. The security cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars, and the trip was criticized as lavish.," reads the report.

"Some commentators are calling the 8 day trip to China trip a junket. The White House will not say how much it will cost."

Besides the Forbidden City, the sprawling imperial palace of the Chinese emperors for 500 years, she will tour the equally impressive Summer Palace, visit the Great Wall of China, get up close to China's ever-endearing pandas, and explore the archaeological wonders of the Terra Cotta Warriors Museum, which houses the 8,000-strong terracotta army of sculptures buried more than 2,200 years ago with China's first unifying emperor, in Xi'an. Michelle says traveling together is a treat for the family; she explained they had very little opportunity to travel internationally before coming to the White House. The White House is encouraging students and classrooms across the USA to follow the first lady's trip by signing up for updates throughout the visit. Michelle said "this is America's trip and I want to share it with everyone"

If Michelle wants to share it with anyone, why did she ban the media from coming along as it the practice on any so called "official" travel?

Well the White House lied, they said this trip would only be Michelle, her mother and her two daughters, her normal staff would not be going with them. Well, China just proved them wrong, Michelle arrived with 70 people which included many on her staff, not including her security detail.

The White House also announced that Mrs. Obama wouldn’t field any questions from journalists she encountered in Beijing, which rankled some members of the press and the private sector, given her trip — complete with an entourage of about 70, most being part of Michelle's staff and a few close friends — all still being paid for with tax dollars

Or are you saying W. Bush was on a spring break vacation when he went to his ranch at the same time of year?

I saw the picture of Michelle and her 70 staffers and friends getting off of the airplane, you know the China were shocked that the airplane could take off with all those black women on board, it looked like Harlem was invading. I'm betting the one who arranged the private suites for all them told his to his aid "We're going to need some stronger beds and bigger toilets"

The average Chinese female weighs 120 pounds, China wasn't prepared for all those 250 pound women to come wobbling off of the airplane, what an embarrassment to the United States.
