I know that posts that are critical of the site have a way of disappearing, but I'm going to throw this into the wind anyway.

After many months of being unable to get into my purchased RC/FB accounts, I finally made it in. Search for Funbags is a total mess. Please do look into restoring the lost functionalithy there.

Search has already been added to FunBags, and will continue to be improved upon by adding additional filters which will help to narrow down search results according to date, contributor, etc. Please let us know if you have any further improvements to search in mind. Thanks!

Search does not work as well as it did. It returns partial results at best. I'm not looking for additional filters to return less, I'm asking for searches (not even obscure ones - ones with submitter names in the title) to work.

For example, a search for "Sexycri" turns up some hits, but not her "Showing my teets" FreeStyle contri that's #20051219-166848 . Similarly, "Magda"'s contribution from that same month don't show. "Dalmatia" finds one hit, and #FS67534 isn't there. Nor does searching for "Sailor", the commenter of that contri, find that contri.

I don't know that there's anything special about those posts. I just tried to pick examples that were unique enough to return a reasonable number of hits to be easy to hand-check.

Choosing the month at http://www.funbags.com/contributions/RedClouds-Regular/ (or most other categories) and clicking for anything before Jan of this year doesn't take you to that monthly overview page.

Funbags is kind of a mess.

Go to any month where the contests are archived. Sometimes the link targets are funbags.com. Often they're redclouds.com or homeclips.com. It's advertised that "Nearly every single amateur photo from Voyeurweb and RedClouds and each homemade videoclip from HomeClips is in here!", but they're not.

No problem. Use search. Only those pages don't have search.

Use search on any OTHER page to find them one by one. Nope. Because search is busted, and doesn't return a big chunk of the content.

So go to that month and use the browser search to find the video. It's definitely there on Funbags; it's just hte link that's broken.

Then, you find some really spiffy contri and click on "More contributions By XXX" link. That doesn't work because they link back to RC and FB instead of FB. Thus, most of those links don't work.

OK, fine. We see a title. We issue a search. Again, the links are about 50/50.

Funbags is serving some pages, but it's pretty broken. Please give it some attention.

Another way that Funbags is confused.

Look at, say, http://www.funbags.com/contributions/view/190398/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Most of the thumbs show "Members Only". By defintion, if you're in Funbags, you should be able to see the previews...you can see the content.

Thank you for bringing these to my attention, I do agree that there are still many changes to be made to FunBags search, as it is still a new feature and I appreciate any further suggestions you have/bugs you discover.

I have alerted the programmers to these issues. I believe they have already fixed the bug you brought up: "Most of the thumbs show "Members Only". By defintion, if you're in Funbags, you should be able to see the previews...you can see the content."

"New" to the current generation, perhaps. It's a substantial regression from how the site worked for anyone that was familiar with the site before.

To the list, please add sensible fulltext search. It appears the system is currently searching LIKE % strings and not obeying word boundaries, let alone roots and stems. So you'll get every reference to "small" if you search for "mall", for example.

Hint, if you're using MySQL (and I think you are) the keyword your programmers need to search for InnoDB and Fulltext. But you need to find why the existing search is missing so many results before you tackle that.

Thank you for fixing the broken internal links. That alone made FB much less painful to use

As for Full Text Search and InnoDB, I believe InnoDB doesn't support Full Text Search until MYSQL 5.6 which is still a release candidate and not ready for production. Perhaps InnoDB + Sphinx until MYSQL 5.6 is ready...

Could certainly be mistaken with the information above. I am not an expert, just have some slight knowledge on the subject.

MySQL has had fulltext searches for approximately forever (V3 or so?). It was added to InnoDB in 2011, as one of the last obstacles to making InnoDB the default. But that's a distraction, so it was probably a mistake to even mention it. Even if you're not on the latest hotness, it doesn't look like you're actually doing text matches, it looks like you're searching on a CONTAINS or a LIKE %$searchstring% or such.

Oh, and let's not get bogged in the details of the solution. Let's agree that search is broken. I'd prioritize the flatly missing results over the extra results caused by non word-based searches.

I 100% agree that Funbags search still needs a lot of work, please do not think we are finished with it. Search is still in the beginning stages, but I do want to clarify as I think it might help:

From what I know, InnoDB with full text search was released in 2011 for MYSQL 5.6, however MYSQL 5.6 is still a release candidate as of today and not for production servers for live sites. 5.5 is the current release for MYSQL. See here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/ and http://dev.mysql.com/ Oracle recently announced that it should ship in early 2013.

By the way, this stuff isn't my normal reading material, lol...

I appreciate any information or advice you provide as it allows us to make the site better, please always feel free to let me know your thoughts!

It's been nearly two months since this was reported broken. This used to work and now it doesn't. Can you please get search to work at least as well as it did when we signed up before our renewals expire? I certainly have no intent of renewing a site that's being neglected by the owners.
