Political discussions about everything

Liberal leaders own the increases in COVID-19 over the last two weeks. COVID-19 was fading away until liberal leaders asked millions to get out and let their voices be heard, even as they refused to allow churches to open.

I expect a YUGE spike as those exposed during the marches across all our major cities become ill. When asked if he felt the protesters would spread COVID-19, Biden said racism is more dangerous than COVID so they need to let their voices be heard and was proud of those taking to the streets. Now people are starting to die as result of stupidity like Biden's.

As always, RealTool is making up stupid shit.

"A study using data from Black Lives Matters protests across 315 of America's largest cities found "no evidence" in the following two and a half weeks that they caused a spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases.

The paper, titled "Black Lives Matter Protests, Social Distancing, and COVID-19," also found "strong evidence" that the protests actually increased stay-at-home overall, likely because non-protesters chose to leave their homes less amid the demonstrations."

It must be downright painful to be as gulolible and stupid as RealTool.

"... As much of the country presses forward with reopening, a growing number of cities and states are finding that the coronavirus outbreak now has a foothold in a younger slice of the population, with people in their 20s and 30s accounting for a larger share of new coronavirus infections.

NPR is now part of the liberal agenda and they would never blame BLM for what is happening but .it's clear ..young people are paying for it now..!..! :O

So the 300% increase in COVID cases among those under 30 over the last two week came from video games? I wasn't aware the COVID tests can eliminate protests from being involved.

But they didn't just come from people who attended protests, dimwit. The spike in cases in younger people appears to have arisen from the opening of bars and nightclubs prematurely. At the BLM protests most people wore masks. In the bars and nightclubs? NOBODY wears a mask and NOBODY social distances.

Young people are stupid. They think that COVID-19 is not a serious threat to them. They think they are immortal. Every grownup knows this. (Even other stupid people such as you and johnforbes know this.)

The spikes occurred after frightened governors stopped listening to the public health professionals and thought that opening businesses prematurely was more important than people's lives. All the spikes are directly related to states moving out of phase 1 stay-at-home responses (which successfully slowed transmissions) into later phases of reopening. They are hitting hardest in areas that opened bars and nightclubs.

johnhny, you clearly "don't know how to think about covid" either.

You need to start looking at the science instead of just your usual partisan propaganda from your handlers.

"More testing = more cases = lower mortality rate" is not all there is to it.

With more testing, it isn't just the number of infections that are going up. There is also an increase in the RATE of infection.
With this increase in the infection rate has come an increase in hospital admissions and covid deaths. Increased hospital admissions and increased deaths demonstrates a growing problem, not just a decrease in mortality that seems to give you so much misguided comfort.

For purely partisan reasons you are desperately hung up on one aspect of the numbers while ignoring the concrete realities they indicate. A number of states have again reached 90% occupancy on their emergency beds. When they surpass 100%, the medical system could face a collapse and Trump will have failed utterly in his response to the pandemic.

But you and Trump are not worried at all. You still believe it will "miraculously" disappear with the warmer weather of summer.

Criminy you guys are stupid. "miraculously"...and johnforbes fell for it. He still believes it because that's all he now has to hold on to to maintain his partisan hope.

I now admit I was wrong--April is not the cruelest month after all. johnny looks forward to breeding lilacs out of the dead land Trump leaves behind.

More testing = more cases = lower mortality rate en route to herd immunity.

Young people can get covid, but are extremely unlikely to perish from it absent some serious co-morbidity.
COVID-19 cases in Florida are skyrocketing because of DeSantis' fucked up public policies.

And you are now claiming that this is OK because of dumb luck, that is , younger people are becoming infected rather than older people?

Early Herd Immunity against COVID-19: A Dangerous Misconception
David Dowdy, Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Gypsyamber D’Souza, Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

We have listened with concern to voices erroneously suggesting that herd immunity may “soon slow the spread”1 of COVID-19. For example, Rush Limbaugh2 recently claimed that “herd immunity has occurred in California.” As infectious disease epidemiologists, we wish to state clearly that herd immunity against COVID-19 will not be achieved at a population level in 2020, barring a public health catastrophe.

Although more than 2.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported worldwide, studies suggest that (as of early April 2020) no more than 2-4%3–5 of any country’s population has been infected with SARS-CoV-2 (the coronavirus that causes COVID-19). Even in hotspots like New York City that have been hit hardest by the pandemic, initial studies suggest that perhaps 15-21%6,7 of people have been exposed so far. In getting to that level of exposure, more than 17,500 of the 8.4 million people in New York City (about 1 in every 500 New Yorkers) have died, with the overall death rate in the city suggesting deaths may be undercounted and mortality may be even higher.8

Some have entertained the idea of “controlled voluntary infection,”9 akin to the “chickenpox parties” of the 1980s. However, COVID-19 is 100 times more lethal than the chickenpox. For example, on the Diamond Princess cruise ship, the mortality rate among those infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 1%. Someone who goes to a “coronavirus party” to get infected would not only be substantially increasing their own chance of dying in the next month, they would also be putting their families and friends at risk. COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death in the United States, killing almost 2,000 Americans every day.8 Chickenpox never killed more than 150 Americans in a year.9

To reach herd immunity for COVID-19, likely 70% or more of the population would need to be immune. Without a vaccine, over 200 million Americans would have to get infected before we reach this threshold. Put another way, even if the current pace of the COVID-19 pandemic continues in the United States – with over 25,000 confirmed cases a day – it will be well into 2021 before we reach herd immunity. If current daily death rates continue, over half a million Americans would be dead from COVID-19 by that time.

As we discuss when and how to phase in re-opening,10 it is important to understand how vulnerable we remain. Increased testing will help us better understand the scope of infection, but it is clear this pandemic is still only beginning to unfold.

johnny, the increased testing and a possible lower mortality rate doesn't even begin to solve the problem or put intelligent people's minds at ease. A lower mortality rate doesn't alter the fact of hospitalizations and deaths that are going up disproportionately to the increase in testing.

A quick reality check for johnflubs:

"-Texas set a record for coronavirus-related hospitalizations for the 16th day in a row on Saturday, with 5,523 patients being treated. In Arizona, health officials also reported a record, with 2,577 current hospitalizations. [this is not happening because of more testing, dimwit]

-As infections soar in Houston, the city’s paramedics say they are facing hour-long wait times when transferring patients from the ambulance to the hospital. [health care system is becoming overly stressed]

-The faltering response in the U.S. remains a subject of global shock and fascination, with one prominent French virologist saying Sunday that the situation was “explosive.”

-President Trump’s campaign directed the removal of thousands of social distancing stickers from seats before his rally in Tulsa."-msn [what sort of imbecile would do such a thing?]

Three weeks of this in every major city, Democrats applauded the protesters and in many cases joined them. But they will tell us getting a hair cut or going to the beach is dangerous

Democrats caused the latest increases in COVID-19 and they did it on purpose. The country was about to reopen and they can't let that happen until after the election, so they agitated and stirred hatred to millions to participate is keeping COVID cases up.

It isn't a "possibly" lower mortality rate but an actual lower one.

More testing = more cases = a lower mortality because math works that way.

Young people are at very, very low mortality risk from covid and that is why they should go back to school in Sept.

Covid likely arrived in America in Nov, and the far wider asymptomatic spread (CDC recently said 10 times more at least than previously thought) means herd immunity is coming.

Media outlets, from CNN to CBS et al., simply don't understand and, in their zeal to spread panic, don't even try to understand the ramifications of more cases.
#126507
Let me help dishonest john with his phony partisan equation:

More testing = more cases identified (not "more cases" The cases are there whether you test for them or not)= a lower mortality rate=higher net deaths because no matter how low the mortality rate of a disease, an explosion of people getting infected means more people die because the math of pandemics works that way.

johnny always wants to leave the "higher net deaths" part out of his equation because it tends to make Trump's incompetent pandemic response look really bad.

Only really avoidable if a vaccine emerges quickly, and one never did for SARS or HIV.

The truth is probably that covid came to Amreica in Nov 2019 and washed over the country via grocery stores and pot shops and liquor stores and all the things left open.

The new cases identified result from more testing, and the higher infectivity rate is more proof of herd immunity.
