Political discussions about everything

So the Republicans claimed that the Ukraine quid pro quo is a “theory.”

Almost immediately afterwards....Trump’s Chief of Staff publicly admitted there was a quid pro quo. Now that Trump's admitting all of this...................we can only imagine what news is coming up in the next few days.

:O

Donald Trump's top aide on Thursday acknowledged that the administration held up military funds to Ukraine over the president's desire for a political probe, undermining past denials of any quid pro quo and blowing up weeks of White House messaging amid an escalating impeachment inquiry.

In a whirlwind 40-minute news conference, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters the U.S. aid was withheld at least in part because of a request to have Ukraine investigate unfounded allegations that foreign countries assisted Democrats in the 2016 election.

This thread must be for RealTool. He said he has never caught Trump in a lie.

I saw Trump say at least five times on the news that "There was no quid pro quo."

Now Trump's own Chief of Staff Mulvaney said there was in fact a quid pro quo.

Does that tell you anything, Tool?

(Let's see if RealTool can put two and two together. Or if that's too hard for him, maybe he can put one and one together?.... Tool IS rather dimwitted.)

So here's the evolution of the conservatives............

It was a totally "perfect call." No Problem.

We asked Ukraine to investigate corruption.

Yeah....OK.......we wanted to investigate Biden, however, it was not politically motivated.

There was no pro quid quo.

Yeah......OK.......we wanted a politically motivated investigation.

There was a pro quid quo.

Yeah........OK.......we do this all of the time. No Problem.

How so?
“I have news for everybody. Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy ... that’s going to happen. Elections have consequences,” Mulvaney told reporters Thursday, saying “we do that all the time with foreign policy" when asked if a “quid pro quo” was involved in the eventual release of the aid.

Mulvaney denied any aid was withheld to pressure Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden

This is Mulvaney from an authorized news conference at the White House--

Reporter: "So the demand for an investigation into the Democrats was part of the reason that he ordered to withhold funding to Ukraine?"

Mulvaney: "The look back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was worried about."

Reporter: "To be clear, what you just described is a quid pro quo. It is funding will not flow unless the investigation into...into the Democrat server happened as well."

Mulvaney: "We do that all the time with foreign policy."

Remember, October 3rd Trump was outside the White House:

Reporter: "Mr. President, what exactly did you hope Zelensky would do about the Bidens after your phone call? Exactly."

Trump: "Well I would think that if they were honest about it that they'd start a major investigation into the Bidens."

Trump just admitted to his intent to have the Bidens investigated when he made the phone call.

First of all, this was one staffer's interpretation.

Secondly, this does happen all the time, and it should, in foreign policy.

Meanwhile, Obama actually DID interfere in the foreign policy of another country by endorsing Trudeau.

johnny, Trump is not a "staffer". What Trump said is not "an interpretation" of what Trump said. It's what he actually said.

He told you himself during the October 3rd interview what he was trying to do in the Zelensky phone call, which was to start an investigation into the Bidens.

There was no possibility of a quid pro quo because Ukraine already started a reinvestigation of the Bidens before the present Ukraine president was ever even elected.

And Ukraine did not learn about the billion in aid until a month after Trump's call.

I support Pelosi calling an impeachment vote, and I hope enough other Democrats are drenched in partisan rage to go forward because the lunacy in D.C. is so utterly out of step with mainstream America.

This is untrue, of course. The investigation was into the oil company, not the Bidens. And it was into the dealings of the oil company before Hunter was ever on the board, so the Bidens wouldn't have come into the issue. This is from those running the investigation/.

It is precisely because the Bidens weren't involved that Trump asked the "favor" of expanding the investigation into Trump's political rival.

"And Ukraine did not learn about the billion in aid until a month after Trump's call."-johnfibs

That's idiotic. Ukraine would have known about the aid the day Congress voted on it.

I would support a vote on this forum johnforbes except that his integrity was long ago impeached here. It is a well known fact that johnforbes is a hypocritical partisan hack.

Sure, the company, but the facts remain the facts -- that the reinvestigation of Burisma -- and, id est, the corruption of the Bidens -- predated the election of the Ukraine president.

The aid fact is also one of those annoying facts for the Left.

I realize most leftists never thought about assembling a case, but you need evidence of a quid pro quo and there isn't any.

And please don't cite some "journalist" like Karl interpreting something Mulvaney said.
