Biden's proposal has nothing to do with bringing in more illegals. The "illegals" he is trying to offer a path to citizenship are already here, and many are working in essential jobs that Americans don't want to do for the money offered to do them.

You take out the "illegals" and you could cripple our health care system even further just when we need them most.

More legal immigrants are also going to be critical for the recovery of our economy. Americans simply aren't producing enough of us to do it without them.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released at least 1,939 border crossers into the interior of the United States since the beginning of February, federal data reveals.

After President Joe Biden’s administration restarted the Catch and Release program — where border crossers are apprehended and quickly released into the U.S. interior — the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released 378 migrant families between February 2 and February 8.
Nearly all, more than 95 percent, of border crossers being released are located in the Del Rio, Texas, and Rio Grande Valley, Texas, regions.

Like the border crossers released by ICE, border crossers released by CBP are not required to undergo testing for the coronavirus.

Most significant is the rate at which Biden’s unraveling of border controls has led to a surge of border crossers being released into the U.S. interior. For instance, according to the federal data reviewed between October and December 2020, CBP had only released 18 border crossers into the U.S. interior.
In January 2021, the number of border crossers released by CBP had skyrocketed to nearly 880 — a 4,800 percent increase in Catch and Release.

The data directly contradicts statements made by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday, in which she claimed that releases of border crossers into the U.S. interior were in “incredibly narrow and limited circumstances.”

“Some migrants are processed for removal, provided a notice to appear and wait within the U.S. to await an immigration hearing,” Psaki said, confirming that Catch and Release is occurring with no requirements for border crossers to take coronavirus tests.

The surge of Catch and Release in the first month of the Biden administration has coincided with a record number of border crossers arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.

As to untested people coming in from ANYWHERE, I think we are getting far more dangerous exposure right now from people coming in from England/Europe and southern Africa. It's all a problem, but Republicans aren't insisting we shut down all travel of tens of thousands of people from those places (tested or not- a negative test on boarding a plane doesn't guarantee that someone is not an asymptomatic carrier, and the British and South African strains are here from SOMEWHERE) but want to make people shit themselves over a relatively small number from Mexico where there isn't yet a large occurrence of more dangerous COVID mutation. In fact, Republicans have been jumping on planes by the tens of thousands to travel (belligerently maskless sometimes) and have entire stores of customers and employees going maskless, as recent video showed. Republicans are STILL going to court to get rational public health measures eliminated and they are too often succeeding. That is a far greater risk to our public health than 2000 Mexicans right now.

Instead of panicking over 2000 Mexicans, Republicans should be panicking over their inconsiderate neighbors and communities going maskless and holding Super Bowl superspreader parties. We'll probably be seeing a spike in cases around the country from that that is far more worrisome than a possible spike at the Texas border. But Republicans don't seem to be bothered by such behavior. Quite the opposite.

The Democrats can't do anything in states and municipalities run by Republicans. So Republicans are going to be responsible for the sickness and death their policies cause in those areas, same as they are responsible for tens of thousands of needless deaths now.

As to what Biden can do, he's doing it. He has required masks be worn on all federal property. That's the only place he has jurisdiction to do so. And some Republicans in Congress are STILL refusing to wear masks. (Self-centered arrogant assholes will be self-centered arrogant assholes.)

And immigration? I guess we'll have to wait to see what the new policies are before you start criticizing Biden for left over Trump travesties. Biden has begun making changes already.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive immigration solution needs to be developed by Congress and not simply obstructed by Republicans. Do you think that could happen with so many purely partisan Republicans in the Senate? But don't blame Democrats if nothing gets done about it because Republicans won't let them do it.
