Desert Sun is our first choice. Big grounds beautifully kept, 3 pools, 2 hot tubs, onsite spa, onsite restaurant, tennis court, conversation areas, lots of grass. Rooms are fine, nothing spectacular, but who's in the room anyway? Villas are nice too, with a kitchen, but we don't plan on cooking while on vacation.
Terra Cotta Inn. Much smaller grounds, 1 pool, large rooms but dated. Not as conveniently located to downtown and restaurants. Very nice owners that are hands on. Our 2nd choice. Very popular with some people. No onsite restaurant.
Living Waters Spa. European feel, very small, no grass. In Desert Hot Springs, not a great location. Nice people that believe the water from the earth has healing power.
Sea Mountain Inn. Swinger spot. Like an old Howard Johnson's hotel. The website is as misleading as they come. If you want open sex with strangers and maybe even your SO, then this is the place. It is not a "Zen nirvana", it's a very small swinger motel. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, just that it's not what it purports to be on their website and planted web reviews. Desert Hot Springs, not convenient to PS and in sort of a grimy neighborhood.
Areolas. Never been. Desert Hot Springs too.
We enjoy Desert Sun because you don't ever have to leave for meals and can be nude 24/7. Keep in mind that some places are clothing-optional. Desert Sun is not, it is a nude resort. You must be nude in and around the pools. If you're going to one of these places for the first time and not sure how you're going to feel, a clothing optional choice may be better for you. We visited Desert Sun as our very first nude experience in some part because of the nude rule, we wanted everybody to be on the same "playing field" so to speak.
Good luck.
